Report parse errors to stderr

The executables all panic if they fail to parse stdin. Instead, report the parser errors on stderr and exit cleanly.

@rleungx, thanks for cleaning up those arg parsing errors. I added a second issue (#135) with a more detailed description of what I intended to fix under this one. Care to have a look?
