Python Dependency?

I wouldn't say this is as much of an issue, but more of a question. Is there any dependence on python in Socket.IO? I noticed this when I was debugging a setup of IPython, and over SSH, I issued a 'killall python' and Socket.IO happened to come to a complete halt. This is not causing any issues in my setup, just a peculiar behavior.
