Description
There are a number of cables, connectors and devices in the main output and return current paths of driver. These lead to voltage drops in addition to the drop across the laser diode.
Here is an exemplary budget for the low noise side for 100 mA current into a 10 Ω resistor placed right where the connection to the MOPA module would be (note that some components are in the forward and return path and have to be counted twice):
| component | voltage drop (mV) |
|---|---|
| 10 Ω resistor | 998 |
| MOPA connector board | ~2 (x2) |
| 47 uH inductor | 148 (x2) |
| 1 uH inductor | 45 (x2) |
| HDMI cable and connectors | 34 (x2) |
| Shottky diode | 334 |
Summing all up gives 1.79 V which is pretty consistent with the 1.84 V that Driver reports on its output and that I can also see on the multimeter.
