The keyhole slots on the back of the monitor require too much precision for easy installation.

The two screws require precision placement – spacing and height.

Even when the screws are installed in a board on the bench, it is difficult to get the monitor on the screws. Very difficult to get the screw spacing precise on a ladder with one hand. Wood grain and aggregate in mortar or brick make it impossible.

The height of the countersink screws must be adjusted several times to get them just right. Too low, the monitor will not connect. Too high, the monitor wobbles and is not secure.

Slipping the monitor on the screws requires two hands to maintain the monitor level so the spacing of the screws matches the spacing of the keyhole slots. If the monitor tilts just a little, the monitor binds on the screws and is difficult to move up or down. The polymer has high friction so recovering from a jamb requires significant force.

The keyhole slots are subject to breaking.

This damage occurred on the demo case and on the case of a resident’s monitor.

The demo case was only slipped on and off the screws in the prepared board.

How can one use the case with such a break?

The internal components are against the back wall of the case limiting the location of screws for attaching a mending plate.

Mounting the monitor on the screws requires a flat surface over 1.5 inches above the screws. This should be included on the drilling template. Narrow lap siding or moldings may be overlooked without this extra flat space being designated on the template. I have provided three boards with installed screws to aid in attaching the monitor to a wall.

Possible Improvement

  1.  The keyhole slots provide a polished interior installation. But required too much precision for exterior installation. What is the height of the screws.
    
  2.  A flange or tabs around the back wall of the monitor with several holes for screws.
    

Use the holes in the flange to guide the drilling of the wall. Tighten the screws to the flange.
3. Attaching metal or plastic plates or brackets to the back or side walls. This would provide flexibility for adjusting to the location of the wall screws. Tighten the screws to the brackets.
