Description
Support guidelines
- My request extends the functionality of Ocular in a meaningful way.
- I've used the search and this has not been requested before.
Description
Currently Ocular shows whatever is left unspent in the yearly plan as savings.
I’d like to explicitly plan regular transfers to my savings accounts (e.g. main savings, retirement, etc.).
Solution
Add a dedicated “Savings” category type, separate from Expenses.
Money allocated to these categories is not treated as spent, but is subtracted from the available budget for everyday spending.
Ideally allow tracking multiple savings targets (e.g. “Emergency fund”, “Retirement account”) and show them in reports.
What are alternatives?
Actual Budget
Additional context
This makes it easier to see:
- How much of my income I’ve intentionally moved aside for savings,
- How much remains available to spend after these transfers,
- While still knowing that the savings are not gone — just stored elsewhere.
This would make Ocular more useful for people who do active long-term saving, without turning it into a full transaction tracker.
I want to migrate from my Excel sheet to the Ocular, but that's the only thing I am missing, and I do not want to go to something complex like Actual Budget.
