This project is a port of the Festival-lite text-to-speech synthesizer for Android. Thanks to the “Eyes-free TTS Extended service” by Google for Android, we can write Flite as a plugin engine and easily enable applications to make use of the Flite voices.

What is Flite?

Flite is a small, fast run-time synthesis engine developed at Carnegie Mellon University and primarily designed for small embedded machines and/or large servers. Flite is designed as an alternative synthesis engine to Festival for voices built using the FestVox suite of voice building tools.

What languages are supported in the Android port?

The initial release of Flite’s android port only provides support for English, but we have several different English voices available, such as male and female voices, and voices of English speakers native to US, UK and India.

Is there an app? How do I use this?

Yes, we have an app on the play store . The app is stable, and you are welcome to try it out and offer us feedback. If you want to build the app from sources, please look at the README
