• I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
• I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

On update to 7.49.0, the app fails to start on W11 desktop.

I have tried restarting & reinstalling, same error.

The same / similar error has been documented here or here. Not sure when this solution might be implemented.

Steps to reproduce

1. Start Signal on W11, desktop

Expected result

Signal to start / show loading screen

Actual result

Crashes with a popup and the following error message

Hello! I've experienced the same issue after updating to 7.49.0 on Win11. Installing the latest beta resulted in the same error, but rolling back to 7.46.1 has gotten the client back on-line.

Thanks for giving beta a try. Could you go to %AppData%\Signal Beta\Crashpad in explorer and see if there is a pending folder? If there is - could you email it to support@signal.org and include link to this github issue, please?

It used to work fine and when I use 7.48.0 (downloading the old version) it works

It would be great if you try running the default example Electron Fiddle app, using the Electron version v35.1.4 (which you should be able to select in the dropdown in the top left. We're just interested in seeing if the app opens!

Sorry to hear it's still happening. Were you able to see a "pending" folder as described here by any chance?

@pandancode just to confirm, the beta version of the app also crashes, and after it does the Crashpad folder doesn't have anything in it, right?

Ah, I misunderstood. So I downloaded the beta from here (for W11), installed, started Signal, crashes, with the same error window as in the OP.

In Signal Beta\Crashpad there are: two folders (atttachments, report) and two files (metadata, settings.dat).
