  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates

Bug description

I copypasted a longer text from a different application on Signal Desktop. My contact only received part of it, apparently only the first 2000 characters.
While Signal Android prevents crafting a longer message and truncates longer pasted messages in the input field, Signal Desktop does not do so. Even more, Signal Desktop has no maximum length indication for a message - on Android, when you get close to the message length limit, it will show "x/2000" below the input field. There is no way for the sender to even know that the message was truncated.

Steps to reproduce

  • Send long message > 2000 characters
  • Contact only receives first 2000 characters
  • Sender's other devices also only receive the shortened message
  • Sender has no indication that only part of the message was sent on the current device, since the whole message is shown as sent on the Desktop, even with the confirming "sent" checkmarks below

Platform info

Operating System: Windows 10
Browser: Chrome 49.0.2623.87 m
Signal version: 3.14.1

I absolutely did, but I searched for things like "message length" and "truncate", not "chars" and "trim". ^^ But I'm glad to know that the issues are already open then.
