This is a project to create software, for character creation and advancement, for the RPG "Ars Magica, 5th edition" by Atlas Games.

Ars Magica is distinguished among RPGs in having a strong focus on the passage of time, and activities (such as training or study) directly affecting character growth. A major part of this is projects in the laboratory of wizard characters, by which new spells are invented and magical items are enchanted.

This leads to certain demands from character creation software -- namely that it should be capable of keeping track of a character over time, rather than merely altering a single set of data.

As such, the central design concept for this software is:

• There is Character Sheet Data, a Journal, and an Initial State for a "blank" character.
• The Journal is primary, and the Character Sheet Data is determined by applying the Journal entries over time, starting with the Initial State.
