Exiting the keyboard by touching another part of the screen lands the user on a blank middle-section with just header and footer

Exiting the keyboard by touching another part of the screen dismisses the keyboard but also clears the middle section of the screen. Instead, closing the keyboard in this fashion should provide the same result as touching the "cancel" button in the keyboard, i.e. either return to the current search results or the home screen if no search results are currently displayed.
