Setup

Before we install the FocusFinder Chrome extension, please ensure:

• ✅ Chrome browser is installed
  • This study requires Chrome exclusively for YouTube use with the FocusFinder extension
  • Download Chrome
• ✅ You are signed in to YouTube on Chrome (Guest and Incognito modes are not supported)
• ✅ You have your Prolific ID ready

Once ready, proceed to installation below 👇

FocusFinder Installation and Verification

1. Use Chrome

Ensure you're using Google Chrome for the entire study.

🚨 Before proceeding to the next steps...
📺 Please make sure you're signed in to YouTube on this Chrome browser! ✅
(Guest and Incognito modes won’t work for this study 😢)

2. Download FocusFinder

• Visit: focusfinder-release.zip
• The file will download automatically as focusfinder-release.zip

3. Unzip the File

• Navigate to your Downloads folder

• Unzip the file:

  • Windows: Right-click → "Extract All..." → Extract
  • MacOS: Double-click the .zip file

4. Enable Developer Mode

• Open a new Chrome tab
• Go to chrome://extensions/
• Toggle Developer mode (top-right corner)

5. Load the Unpacked Extension

• On the same chrome://extensions/ page:

  • Click Load unpacked (top-left)

    

  • Select the whole folder you just unzipped named focusfinder-release

    

  • 🎉 The extension should now be visible in your Chrome toolbar!

    

Note: Do not delete the focusfinder-release folder during the study.

Final Step: Verification

1. Go to YouTube

2. Complete the Registration Pop-up Survey

   • Enter your Prolific ID
   • Answer the survey question
   • Submit
   

3. A Verification Code will appear on screen

   • Click it to automatically copy
   

4. Return to the Prolific Survey Form

   • Paste your Verification Code to confirm your registration

For the next 7 days, simply:

• Use YouTube as usual
• Respond to occasional pop-up surveys from the extension

Optional Sections

Turning Off Chrome Extensions After Study

1. Go to chrome://extensions/
2. Toggle off the FocusFinder extension

Optional: Cache Cleaning (For Previous Testers)
