AddOrientationCompass Command is throwing an error

When I try to run Edit>Add>Compass I get

In general the OrientationCompass is problematic:

• it doesn't really look aligned to axes
• it becomes the active node in an odd way and captures the arcball

@xulman I also like the orientation compass, but I'm not sure we should keep it in for 1.0.0 without resolving these issues.
