Hello Sandboxie users,

can maybe anybody help me with my issue?
I'm investigating this for already ~3 weeks without success.

I run a 3D sport game called Zwift for roughly 2 years in sandboxie without an error.
Since end of November the setup suddenly stopped working without manually updating/changing anything (maybe auto windows or driver updates are playing a role here?)

I have two different PCs, on one the setup still runs as intended today.
The 2nd PC which was used successfully in the past is showing this error (see report below).

What's strange to me is the behavior of the sandboxed zwift.exe.
Zwift first starts up as intended, then a login screen apreas and I can log-in successfully.
In the next screen the programm crashes... -> maybe due to 3d initalisation?

Until today I tryed:

  • different sandboxie versions
  • different Nvidia drivers
  • complete wipe of windows (format c:)

Error Report from sandboxie:
SBIE2101 Object name not found: , error OpenProcess (C0000022) access=001FFFFF initialized=1
SBIE2101 Object name not found: , error OpenProcess (C0000022) access=001FFFFF initialized=1

I've got the same error with Foxit PDF Reader 10.1 and Sandboxie 5.33.3. I hoped that switching to Sandboxie-plus would resolve the error, but evidently not.

I experience the error for about a month. I thought that this is a problem of the newest Foxit Reader version. Also, I recently upgraded to WIn10 20H2, but I think the crashes were happening even before the upgrade (but I'm not sure). You experience the same problems with another program, so the change in Sandboxie behaviour might be caused by a recent Windows update.

Perhaps this might help to analyse the problem.

@loupstar Could you provide a download link for Zwift?
Did you try it with a more recent version of Sandboxie?

I'm having the same problem with Chrome and Sandboxie Classic.
I uninstalled Sandboxie and manually deleted folders in Program Files and ProgramData.
Uninstalled Chrome and deleted folders in Program Files and in AppData\Local.
I rebooted and reinstalled the latest Chrome and Sandboxie 5.49.8.
I'm still getting:SBIE2101 Object name not found: Unnamed object, error OpenProcess (C0000022) access=001FFFFF initialized=1
Also, when I double-click on Chrome, five programs start in Sandboxie and then automatically close.
They are:chrome.exe, WerFault.exe, SandboxieRpcSss.exe, SandboxieDcomLaunch.exe, SandboxieCrypto.exe
Firefox and Edge work fine.
Thanks for your help.

why does chrome work for others, what is special about your configuration?
have you tried a clean VM to test parts of your setup individually?

Sadly, same error occurs. Also tried Sandboxie Classic, but got the same error.

  • What clean VM did you use for your tests? VMware, Virtualbox, Windows Sandbox ?
  • Windows 7, 8.1, 10, 11 ? x64 or x86 ?
  • Is it an Insider build?
  • Did you previously enable some policy setting outside Sandboxie? For example in gpedit.msc, secpol.msc, special Windows Defender Exploit protection settings or in other external tools?
  • Did you try to disable any browser extension inside the sandbox, assuming it's only Chrome related and not related to every Chromium browsers?

@DavidXanatos I keep having this same issue with my Chrome super frequently crashing for several months now and through many Sandboxie Classic versions (currently on v5.55.13).

I'm also using:

  • Chrome v97.0.4692.71 (Official Build) (64-bit)

  • Windows 10 64 bit
    OS Build 19043.1586
    Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4170.0

You may want to follow these instructions about the creation of a crash dump on the sandbox itself:

added sandbox top level exception handler to create crash dumps -- it can be enabled per process or globally using "EnableMiniDump=process.exe,y" or "EnableMiniDump=y" respectively -- the dump flags can be set as hex with "MiniDumpFlags=0xAABBCCDD" -- a preselected flag set for a verbose dump can be set with "MiniDumpFlags=Extended" -- Note: created dump files are located at: C:\Sandbox\%USER%\%SANDBOX%

For example:

  1. add EnableMiniDump=y in the same sandbox you were able to reproduce the crash
  2. reproduce the crash again
  3. share here the crash dump file with .dmp extension, it should be located at C:\Sandbox\%USER%\%SANDBOX%

Note: it doesn't seem to work with browsers, so it's advised to check their profile folder in your sandbox.

  • I Was running a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro.
  • No VM's were running or used
  • No modifications to Sandboxie settings

I ended up fixing my crashing issues by opening my programs in 32-bit (using the 64-bit version of sandboxie)

I can confirm Plus 1.0.14 x64 seems particularly problematic with Chrome 99 64-bit, so I attached a crash dump as reference in my previous post.

EDIT: I removed the crash dump because it didn't go through the sbiedll file.

In theory it's possible to replace the SbieDll.dll file in the main installation folder with another one coming from other versions.

Any further suggestion would be welcome...
