This is no longer used in as many places, and I don't think it's worth introducing a new abstraction. Also I don't really want to maintain this in v2 onwards.

This also removes the main package's dependency on the cancelable package. That
package is no longer used in as many places as when it was introduced, and I
don't think it's worth the cost of the abstraction. Also I don't really want to
maintain this in v2 onwards.
