Check why are some of the error messages on Windows different #2562

Question
While trying to improve the tests and added some code to verify the text of some of the error messages in #2560 I've encountered 2 cases where the error messages on Windows were different. Indicating that the code fails at a different point. This does not seem right. If that PR is accepted then we'll have tests for this, but in any case it would be a good idea to understand the source of the differences.
