Add the media_render catalog node: renders caller-supplied edits from named media streams with synchronized audio, burned-in captions, framing plans, mastering and optional assets, emitting results on pipeline lanes. Stream descriptors are read from the engine's metadata block (declared size is advisory); the request is validated at pipeline start and required sinks at object open; video cuts are frame-aligned to the mastered audio; framing holes render full frame with a warning; keep intervals are ordered and may not overlap; filtergraph quoting survives ffmpeg's two-level parse; silent audio is reported instead of aborting mastering; windowed captions follow the rendered slice; profile defaults are per profile (#2067 pattern); the av pin matches the universal lock. Programme parts share one cumulative frame clock; bounded last-frame padding avoids end-of-file loss. Regression tests measure every encoded boundary and final audio/video duration for ordinary and framed multipart renders. Accept integral numeric advisory sizes and warn on invalid metadata while enforcing the actual-byte ingress budget; cover coercion and limit handling. Register class cleanup immediately after creating each temporary directory.
If setUpClass fails, unittest does not call tearDownClass. CameraSourceSmokeTest can raise SkipTest after _camera_file fails, and RenderedSyncTest can raise CalledProcessError when the fixture build fails. Both paths leave temporary directories and partial media files behind. Repeated CI retries can accumulate them.

Substantial, carefully-built node — the same qualities as media_inspect: no shell=True anywhere, path traversal guarded twice (store_path_problem plus the is_relative_to re-check), bounded ingress, and the new _support/paths.py adds real destination validation on top. 319 tests is serious coverage.
Blocking on CI, which is red on this PR's own tests.
1. Blocking — Windows CI fails on two of this PR's new tests
FAILED test/media_render/test_review_regressions.py::test_video_without_audio_gets_a_synchronized_silent_track[True-programme]
FAILED test/media_render/test_review_regressions.py::test_video_without_audio_gets_a_synchronized_silent_track[False-programme]
2 failed, 5513 passed, 241 skipped
Ubuntu 22.04 and macOS ARM64 are green. Both clip parametrizations pass on Windows; only programme fails, in both the audio_only=True and False variants.
The failing line is 636, not the render itself:
assert info['has_audio'] and info['has_video'] is not audio_only # 634 — passes
assert abs(info['duration_ms'] - 1100) <= 34 # 635 — passes
assert any('silent' in warning.lower() for warning in ...['warnings']) # 636 — failsSo the synchronized silent track is produced correctly and has the right duration; only the warning is missing from the report.
A hypothesis, not a diagnosis — there is no FFmpeg on this machine so I could not reproduce it. The warning is gated on integrated_lufs is None (IInstance._note_silence), which requires _finite_or_none to see loudnorm report -inf, i.e. it requires the measured audio to be exactly digital silence. The programme path joins encoded parts rather than measuring the anullsrc material directly, and an encoder round-trip of silence can land on a finite floor (around -70 LUFS) instead of -inf depending on the FFmpeg build — and the Windows runner's build differs from macOS/Linux. That the split is exactly programme-vs-clip, and exactly this assertion, fits.
If that is what is happening, the fragile part is the design rather than the test: loudness_measurable() treating "silent" as "non-finite" makes the behaviour depend on the FFmpeg build. A threshold — integrated LUFS below roughly -60 counts as silent — would be portable across builds. Worth confirming on a Windows runner before picking the fix.
This is squarely the surface your own note flagged: "A fresh native develop build and Linux/Windows CI have not been verified locally."
2. Should fix — a fix that landed yesterday is already missing from this copy
media_inspect merged to develop at 2026-09-23T00:52, and its _support/config.py carries the non-finite guard that commit ba96715c added and test_profile_float_values_stay_finite pins:
# develop: media_inspect/_support/config.py
parsed = float(value)
if math.isfinite(parsed):
config[key] = parsed# this PR: media_render/_support/config.py
config[key] = float(value)It is latent today — media_render's DEFAULTS has no float entries, so that branch is unreachable — but it goes live the moment someone adds one, which is precisely how it appeared in the sibling.
3. The duplication is the reason #2 happened
Against the now-merged media_inspect:
| file | media_inspect | media_render | differing lines |
|---|---|---|---|
_support/__init__.py |
25 | 25 | 0 |
_support/media.py |
485 | 569 | 96 |
_support/config.py |
81 | 107 | 36 |
_support/workspace.py |
65 | 105 | 40 |
.claude/rules/architecture.md says: "Extract when there is a second consumer or a clear separation boundary." This is the second consumer, and the repo already has both mechanisms for it — nodes/src/nodes/core/gcp_auth.py is shared by db_firestore and tool_gcs, and embedding_video imports nodes.embedding_image.embedding directly across node directories.
Item 2 is the concrete cost, one day after the first copy merged, not a hypothetical. Extracting the shared surface into nodes/core/ is much cheaper now than after a second copy is on develop. If there is a deployment reason each node directory must stay self-contained, say so and I will drop this — but then the two copies need a deliberate sync story.
4. Minor — non-finite spec value reaches an FFmpeg filter
plan.py:456:
'loudness_lufs': float(audio.get('loudness_lufs') or LOUDNESS_TARGET_LUFS),No finite check, so {"audio": {"loudness_lufs": "nan"}} produces loudnorm=I=nan:TP=…. This is the same pattern I confirmed empirically on #2392 (silencedetect=noise=nandB) — float() cannot emit a , or : so it is not injection, and it fails loudly, and the spec is operator-authored. Minor on its own; flagging it because this is now the third occurrence across the two nodes, which suggests a small shared finite_float(value, default) helper would retire the whole class. report.py already has a finite() for the output side.
Happy to re-review once Windows is green. Items 2 and 4 are quick; item 3 is the one worth a decision now rather than later.
