fix(shell,vscode,apps): per-context dev-preview tokens, https-only cloud sign-in, portable manifest specs - #2238
Conversation
…oud sign-in, portable manifest specs, App Builder polish Shell - embedded dev previews get per-context token storage: - New leaf module util/devGate.ts holds the dev gate (moved verbatim from devMode.ts, which re-exports it so consumers keep one import site) plus two new predicates: isEmbeddedDevShell() (dev hooks on AND framed) and tokenStore() (sessionStorage for embedded previews, localStorage for real tabs). Leaf placement breaks the import cycle: the ConnectionManager needs the predicates and devMode.ts imports the ConnectionManager. - ConnectionManager and both auth providers route every token read/write through tokenStore(). WHY: two App Builder preview panels with divergent auth states shared the origin-wide localStorage slot - each panel's clear/save cross-fired the other panel's storage watcher and the panels reloaded each other forever. An embedded preview takes its session from its embedder (the rrdev:auth answer is definitive), so its token must live per-context and the shared slot must stay untouched. - The storage-event watcher is disabled entirely in embedded shells: the shared slot is never actionable there. - The one-shot sessionStorage->localStorage token migration is removed. The legacy slot is long gone, and keeping the migration would now misread an embedded preview's per-context token as a migration source and hoist it into the shared slot. - Tests: the two legacy-migration assertions tightened; two new tests cover the embedded paths (token methods never touch localStorage; the same cross-context removal that signs out a real tab neither clears nor reloads an embedded shell). resetDevGateForTests() lets tests stage their own gate environment. VSCode - refuse cleartext credential transport (CWE-319): - isSecureCloudTarget() in config.ts: https/wss always acceptable, http/ws only for loopback hosts (the documented http://localhost:5565 dev flow). Enforced at the single sign-in funnel in CloudAuthProvider - sign-in ends with the API key inside the connection's auth request, so a cleartext scheme puts the credential on the wire - and in settings validation; the cloudUrl setting description now states the rule. VSCode - App Builder polish: - watchManager classifies rsbuild output from untagged lines only. Lines tagged [browser] are dev.browserLogs relays of the PAGE's runtime errors dressed in rsbuild's own error format - app traffic, not compiler state - and must never flip the panel to "build failed" (nothing failed to compile, so the Console would carry no explanation). - SidebarProvider sorts the app list by display name; scan order is marker-path order, a binding-priority detail users should not see. App manifests - one canonical portable spec (ruling: manifests carry the lift-out path, workspace overrides own in-repo resolution): - hello-ui/world-ui: the saas-root-relative ../../../ specs from ced4e7a become the depth-independent ../../ form. The three-level form only resolves in the nested dogfood checkout; the portable form is correct wherever an app sits at <workspace>/apps/<app> - a user workspace, the build sandbox, or its own repo after lift-out. - explorer-ui/monitor-ui: rocketride moves from workspace:* to the same portable file: spec, pinning the server-matched client on lift-out (the npm registry package can lag the connected server badly). In-repo nothing changes: the workspace-yaml overrides (shell/rocketride -> workspace:*) supersede the file: specs before resolution, proven by a zero lockfile delta after install. - rocket-ui: appManifest typecheck flips false -> true and a typescript devDep (+ lock entry) backs the tsc --noEmit script - the app typechecks clean now, so server-side app builds enforce it from here on. Gates: shell:clean shell:build shell:test (30/30) shell:check, vscode:clean vscode:build, rocket-ui tsc --noEmit, pnpm install with a lockfile delta of exactly the typescript devDep entry. …to the workspace yaml The App Builder open path recomputed each app's shell/rocketride file: specs relative to the LIVE VSCode workspace root and rewrote package.json whenever they disagreed (reserializing the whole file to 2-space indent). The spec is depth-dependent, so the same committed manifest was "wrong" in one checkout layout and "right" in another - opening a monorepo app from a differently-rooted window churned checked-in files back and forth (ced4e7a was one such rewrite landing as a commit). Ruling: app files are AUTHOR-OWNED after scaffold; the workspace yaml is the tool-owned wiring surface. ensureShellDependency/ensureClientDependency /ensureTgzDependency are replaced by ensureDependencyWiring: 1. A dependency missing from the manifest outright is completed with the canonical portable spec (file:../../.rocketride/...) - an override cannot help there, pnpm installs nothing it was never asked for. The scaffold template already renders the spec, so in practice only hand-authored manifests take this branch. This is the ONLY app-file write the module makes. 2. A dependency covered by a workspace-yaml override (any value - the platform monorepos pin workspace:*) needs nothing: the override supersedes the spec at resolution. This short-circuit is what ends the monorepo churn: both repos' yamls override both names, so the App Builder keeps its hands off regardless of which folder the IDE has open. 3. A present spec that does not resolve to the workspace's vendored tarball (an app lifted to its repo ROOT still carrying ../../, or a monorepo app lifted while carrying workspace:*) gets a workspace-root- relative override added to pnpm-workspace.yaml (file:.rocketride/...). Override file: specs resolve from the workspace root, so app depth is irrelevant and no layout ever needs the manifest corrected. The yaml surgery follows ensureWorkspaceFile's conservative line-level approach (no YAML dependency): entries insert under an existing overrides: block matching its indentation, a missing block is appended, an inline overrides value is refused loudly, and the file's own line endings are honored (the repo yamls are CRLF on Windows checkouts - the first regex draft was CR-blind and read zero overrides from both real yamls; caught by the behavior matrix below). Writes are logged loudly (user-owned file). Comments in scaffolder.ts and watchManager.ts describing the old rewrite behavior are updated; the wiring policy is documented in apps/vscode/docs/appdev.md per the co-located documentation rule. Verification: vscode:clean vscode:build green; a 20-case behavior matrix (logic mirrored verbatim) covering monorepo no-op with byte-identical yaml, standard-layout no-op, lifted-to-root override + idempotency, CRLF preservation with an existing unrelated overrides block, missing-dep completion, inline-override refusal, workspace:*-in-bare-repo healing, and both real repo yamls reading as fully covered. …eviews, doc fixes (CodeRabbit round) Addresses all four CodeRabbit findings on #2238: 1. Embedded preview tokens move from sessionStorage to FRAME-LOCAL memory (devGate.frameTokenStore). Per WHATWG, same-origin sibling iframes inside one top-level browsing context SHARE a session storage area, so sessionStorage could not isolate two preview panels on one page - one could still overwrite or clear the other's token. A module-level map is scoped to the frame's JS realm, the only truly per-frame slot, and needs no persistence: the embedder re-answers rrdev:auth on every boot (Shell.tsx holds bootstrap behind waitForEmbeddedSession), so a reloaded frame re-adopts its session instead of reading it back. 2. Embedded previews no longer prime the /apps cookie. The rr_apps_token cookie (path=/apps, minted by /apps/session, consumed by apps_static for every bundle serve) lives in the HOST-WIDE cookie jar shared by every same-origin frame - a panel's injected dev session would swap the bundle credentials out from under the embedding user's real session and every sibling panel. The preview's own dev bundle is served by the dev overlay, not /apps, so the prime is not needed there. Real tabs prime exactly as before. 3. The deployment.cloudUrl setting description now states the https policy (https required; http only for localhost dev targets), matching development.cloudUrl. Enforcement already covered both groups - validateGroupConfig is per-group; only the doc lagged. 4. The workspace-yaml overrides comment cited the retired three-level client path (file:../../../.rocketride/client/rocketride.tgz) as the portable example - the stale artifact of ced4e7a that the review keyed on. It now documents the depth-independent two-level form the manifests actually carry. The manifests themselves are correct and unchanged (see the PR's first commit). Tests: the embedded-token test now asserts BOTH shared stores stay untouched and no /apps prime fires; a new real-tab test asserts the prime still fires with the token in localStorage. shell:test 31/31, shell:check, vscode:build green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
CodeRabbit follow-up on ensureDependencyWiring: the missing-dep completion checked only pkg.dependencies, so a shell/rocketride declaration an author placed in devDependencies (a type-only consumer reasonably does), optionalDependencies, or peerDependencies would be duplicated into dependencies - overriding the author's section choice, against the author-owned manifest contract. The resolution check read the same narrow slot, so such a declaration would also be mis-evaluated as absent. Completion and the resolution check now both look up the declared spec across all four sections: a dep declared anywhere is never duplicated, and its spec is evaluated from wherever the author put it. Behavior matrix extended to 26 cases (canonical devDependencies declaration honored untouched; broken devDependencies declaration healed via workspace override with no duplication). …Nodes/Pipelines The pipelines Explorer section header now reads MY PIPELINES, matching the MY APPS treatment on the apps tab (both are the user's local working copies, so both carry the possessive form). The mode tabs reorder to APPS | NODES | PIPELINES, putting the app-development surfaces first. The default mode stays 'pipelines' - only the strip order changes; selection is id-based, so nothing else moves. Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Both defaults flip from 'pipelines' to 'apps': the provider's session-scoped mode (the value every full update carries, so a reloaded webview restores it) and the webview's pre-state initial value (so the first paint shows the same tab the provider will confirm, no flash). App development is the sidebar's primary surface now that the tabs lead with it; a user's explicit tab choice still persists for the session exactly as before, and SidebarView's fallback to Pipelines for hosts without an app builder is untouched.
