This can be done with the latest version of hiredis. An example for implementing this looks something like this (also present in the README):

reply = redisCommand(context,"SUBSCRIBE foo");
freeReplyObject(reply);
while(redisGetReply(context,&reply) == REDIS_OK) {
  // consume message
  freeReplyObject(reply);
}
