The project already accepts donations (GitHub Sponsors / PayPal), but the current approach is unstructured and not sufficient for a project of this scale.
At the moment, funding exists, but there is no clear sponsorship model.
Problem
- No defined sponsorship tiers
- No differentiation between individual and company sponsors
- No public visibility for sponsors
- No clear incentive or value proposition for sponsoring
This makes it difficult to attract serious or recurring sponsors, especially companies.
Proposal
Introduce a structured sponsorship system similar to CachyOS:
- Define clear sponsorship tiers (e.g. individual / company levels)
- Add sponsor visibility (README, website, or dedicated section)
- Clearly present sponsorship options and goals
- Optionally define sponsor benefits (acknowledgement, priority communication, etc.)
(You can refer to CachyOS's Patreon page as an example. https://www.patreon.com/CachyOS)
Why This Matters
- Large open-source projects require predictable funding
- Structured sponsorship increases trust and transparency
- Visibility and recognition are key factors for attracting sponsors
- The current donation setup does not scale
Conclusion
The project already has funding channels, but without structure, they are underutilized.
A proper sponsorship model would significantly improve sustainability and make the project more attractive to both individuals and companies.
I like this project and want to see it grow in a sustainable way, which is why I believe this is an important step.
