I'm having trouble installing my desktop rancher, it gets stuck in "starting backend" and crashes my macbook. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Hello, can you please provide more info:

  • your CPU architecture (will be either x86_64 or arm64/M1 if you're on a mac)
  • the version of macOS you're running
  • the version of Rancher Desktop you're running
  • the version of Kubernetes you're running inside Rancher Desktop
  • which container runtime you're using (containerd or moby)

The following info would also help:

  • whether it is a company machine that may be restricted in certain ways or may have special network policies
  • any log files that your machine produced; these should be in ~/Library/Logs/rancher-desktop. Bonus points for enabling debug mode in the Troubleshooting tab before producing the logs.

If you haven't already, please try doing a restart and a factory reset. Thanks!

Hello @movielsedie, Did you find a way around this problem? I have a teammate who has the same problem as you reported.

Hi @cerjr and @yuvarajgrover !

Please provide additional information as requested by #2221 (comment). And please file individual bugs using the Bug Report template instead of adding on to an issue that just says "it gets stuck".

There is no way anybody can help you unless you provide additional information, including the log files, so we can see if there are any errors in them. And since the root cause may be different, it is better to have separate reports until it has been established that they are really the same issue.
