[PR #12472/90459a8f backport][8.2.x] testresult: correctly apply verbose word markup and avoid crash

This is a backport of PR #12472 as merged into main (90459a8).

The following snippet would have resulted in crash on multiple places since
_get_verbose_word expects only string, not a tuple.
