Reasons for the request
pygam seems abandoned and the maintainer, @dswah, seems non-reactive, since mid 2024. The repository has a "help wanted" posted on it by maintainers as well.
We have posted that we would be open to take over maintenance, without reaction from the maintainers:
dswah/pyGAM#374
The issue has received a number of thumbs up from an active community who would also likely contribute - pull requests adding compatibility for newer python versions for instance have remained unreviewed and unmerged.
