Description

@anisa-hawes

I am opening this Issue to update our /en/editor-guidelines and /fr/consignes-redacteurs, with /es and /pt to follow.

The update will replace the 'editor guidelines' (which reflect the pre-professional phase of the project when editors also shouldered publisher tasks), with a short overview of our current publishing workflow.

It will provide a reference guide for editors, but will also be useful to our whole community of contributors. I think Publishing Workflow / Processus de Publication is the most accurate title for the guide, which explains what happens at each stage of our workflow, defining responsibilities and timeframes.

Within this, Editors will find editorial principles and key considerations (as well as a link to our difficulty matrix) detailed within Phase 2. These changes are long overdue, but reflect our current professional services and best-practices, mirroring what have been our working guidelines for sometime as available to all editors on ph-submissions. The ph-submissions version of this guidance will remain in place and will continue to include the templates we have set up for reviewer request emails, and Phase 4 opening comments which are not necessary to point to on the website.

Our professional services documentation has been separated as internal guidance, for use by our Publishing Team.

The new pages will include:

  • Overview of phases, responsibilities, and timeframes
  • Details of each phase (responsibilities, timeframes, processes & activities)
  • Editorial principles and key considerations (and a link to our difficulty matrix).

Note: This is a generalised overview of what how we do things at the moment. As we move forwards with our Technical Infrastructure Renewal, the Publishing Team will map across each phase, adapting as necessary, and improving where possible.
