[-][Seven] - Replacement for `moment`.[/-][+][Seven] - Replacement for `moment`[/+]on Feb 8, 2025 As part of the effort to replace moment.js in Volto, I have encountered limitations with some external components like SingleDatePicker and TimePicker, which still require a moment object as their input value. This makes it difficult to fully remove moment from the codebase without also replacing these components.
To address this, I have started testing the DatePicker and TimeField components from @plone/components, which are built on top of react-aria-components and do not depend on moment. These components offer a more modern and accessible approach, while allowing us to work with native Date objects and ISO strings.
I've opened a work-in-progress PR to test the integration of these components in the current Volto DatetimeWidget:
plone/volto#6886This PR is not ready to be merged, but it serves as a starting point for evaluating this direction.
For Seven, let's keep in mind that we depend on
react-aria-componentsand therefore can easily use@internationalized/datewhich is a very good alternative to moment.js https://react-spectrum.adobe.com/internationalized/index.html2 remaining items

There are places in Volto where we are still using
moment, for parsing dates probably. We need to investigate an find a proper and sustainable solution.Link to the parent PLIP
