this is succinct, but isn't it probably safer to do:
.replaceAll(/::/, ':')
.replace(/^:/, '')
.replace(/:$/, '')?

I didn't bother with some of these as we construct this env ourselves. The runtime env from the package.yml could in theory cause a preceding : I guess.
