Checkouts of a host no integration claims should share one set of hosting CLI probes until the answer expires, a settings change clears it, or a checkout could not reach a CLI. These tests count the probes and fail on main, except the guard that unreachable answers are never kept. Co-authored-by: JorrinKievit <43169049+JorrinKievit@users.noreply.github.com> Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The registry now keeps each unknown-remote verdict for 5 minutes, keyed by what the refiners read minus owner/repo, so checkouts of one server share one probe set and concurrent lookups share one lookup. A verdict is kept only when every integration answered: a missing CLI counts as an answer, while a missing checkout, a timeout, a failing tea or a failing gh does not. Forgejo swallows only a real missing CLI. Saving settings clears the cache. A host verdict is cached only when the CLI answered for the host. These now stay uncached, as on main: glab output with no host record and no never-logged-in line, a gh exit other than its no-token answer, an fj that is installed but cannot run, an unreadable fj keys file or tea login list, and a tea claim made while fj could not answer. Forgejo mount paths keep their case in the cache key. Co-authored-by: JorrinKievit <43169049+JorrinKievit@users.noreply.github.com> Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
When glab lists the remote's host but holds no account for it, its API call failed or its token was rejected, so glab could not tell either way. The GitLab refiner now returns "could not tell" for that host instead of a decline, and the verdict is not cached. Output that lists only other hosts still settles a decline. 370-378: 🚀 Performance & Scalability | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winStop probing integrations after the first claim.
Effect.forEach(input.specs, ask)runs every spec, including those after the first claim. The fold reads only verdicts up to and including the first claim. Specs after a claim still spawn CLIs or read credentials, and each one can take up toprobeTimeoutMs(5 seconds). The registry caches settled verdicts, but every cache miss or unsettled lookup still pays this extra latency on the request path. Run the specs one by one and return on the first claim.♻️ Proposed change

The invalid-response error for a tea login list that fails to decode now carries the decoder failure as its cause, like the other decode errors. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Problem
Explicit-context lookups repeat hosting CLI probes for unrecognized remotes. When no provider claims a remote, the project walk and host-wide fallback repeat that work across checkouts. A settled answer should serve compatible lookups without another probe set.
The issue reports one
canonicalReftaking 20.8 seconds across 12 refinements and 24listLoginscalls. Those are the reporter's measurements.Change
The registry caches settled refinement verdicts, including "nobody claimed it", for five minutes, with a capacity of 512. Explicit-context lookups and identity refinement use it.
Cache.getshares concurrent misses. Each caller keeps its own remote URL and name. The key combines the detected provider name and base URL, the remote's server and mount prefix, and requested host. URL-form keys retain scheme and port and remove the final two path segments. SCP-form keys use the host. Mount path case is preserved.
A verdict is cached only when the integrations needed to choose it answered. Verified missing executables and recognized no-login responses are answers. Operational or unrecognized responses remain inconclusive. A later provider claim is returned without caching if an earlier command or integration could not answer. Settled verdicts get five minutes; inconclusive verdicts get zero TTL.
Each registry instance subscribes to settings changes and clears its verdict cache when a change arrives. External CLI login changes appear after expiry or a server restart. Capacity eviction can also cause another lookup.
Scope and approval
Closes #12060, labelled
accepted. Julius's triage confirms the server performance bug and asks for cached unknown-host refinement with broken-checkout fallback intact.PullRequestServicestays unchanged, with no publicsettledfield. Julius's later review of #12071 gives the reason:The project walk and host-wide fallback retain their routing and reuse compatible verdicts. Host classification and SSH alias detection remain out of scope. No client, contract-package, or dependency changes.
Carried forward
This carries forward the closed, unmerged #12071 by @JorrinKievit.
Kept five-minute caching of settled verdicts, including negative answers, concurrent sharing through
Cache.get, and zero TTL for inconclusive verdicts.Changed the key to an Equal/Hash object that preserves mount and context identity and applies the verdict to each caller's context. Spawn-error origin replaces the filesystem-exists probe for missing executables. Credential and login readers preserve enough diagnostics to distinguish answers from operational failures. Settings-stream invalidation replaces invalidation in
discover. The PR-service walk change and public verdict flag are dropped. The fix uses the current source-control packages and retains custom-host refinement from #11059, with settings moved onto host definitions by #17901.Verification

2c69169cd6.Main's expiry and settings assertions fail because explicit-context lookups see a new login immediately. Coverage includes separate lowercase prefixes and case-distinct Forgejo mounts. The four original failed-probe cases retry on both versions. Added guards pass for unreadable glab config, an unconfirmed glab host, real credential-reader recovery, two real Forgejo login-reader recoveries, and a tea claim after fj failed. These services use fake processes and files.
Ten synthetic checkouts share one synthetic unrecognized host. Each lookup passes an explicit context. Main has no settled-refinement cache for explicit-context lookups, so this workload repeats the hosting probes. These ten explicit-context lookups share one cache key. The counting test records one set of calls while that settled entry remains cached, and concurrent misses share the lookup. Fakes count glab spawns, fj and tea login-reader calls, and GitHub credential-reader calls behind the real registry. One sweep gives 10 to 1 calls per fake. Three sweeps at 0, +2 and +4 minutes give 30 to 1 cumulatively. Ten concurrent lookups on a fresh registry give 10 to 1 and retain each caller's repository URL. The throwaway counting test passed on both versions and was deleted.
Counting test, before to after: 10 to 1 calls per fake for one sweep, 30 to 1 cumulatively for three sweeps, and 10 to 1 for concurrent lookups.
