Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a file that has changes, such as a Markdown file.
  2. Confirm that the changed-file pane opens on the right.
  3. Drag the divider to the left to make the file pane wider.
  4. Observe the AI chat panel and composer.

Expected behavior

The AI chat panel should adapt to its available width. The composer, text, and action buttons should stay inside the panel and remain responsive.

Actual behavior

The composer and its controls overflow the AI chat panel and overlap nearby content. Parts of the chat interface become difficult or impossible to use.

    Reproduced on macOS 26.5.2(ss below) and Windows 11 Home 25H2 x64 with 0.0.34-nightly.20260812.1072 (560d4a4560dd)

    the panel's max width is 70% of the viewport, but the app sidebar sits outside the panel/chat row, so chat is left with 30% minus the sidebar, which on narrow windows is too little for the composer.
