[Bug]: Custom Codex provider row truncates its display name and the config badge overlaps the version label in the Providers panel #11241

Area

Summary

After adding a second Codex provider instance with a custom config (custom CODEX_HOME), the Providers panel renders the instance row so that the display name is truncated to a few characters and the config-id badge overlaps the version label on the same line. The row is unreadable and looks broken compared to the built-in Codex row above it.

Provider row with truncated name and badge overlapping the version

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Providers panel in the web/desktop UI.
  2. Have the built-in Codex provider (authenticated) plus a custom Codex provider instance configured with its own config dir (e.g. display name personal, config dir codex_personal).
  3. Look at the custom instance's row.

Expected behavior

  • The instance display name gets a reasonable share of the row width (ellipsis only after meaningful characters, or wrapping).
  • The config-id badge and the v0.154.0 version label never overlap — the row layout should give each element its own space or hide extras at narrow width.

Actual behavior

  • The display name collapses to pe... even though the row has plenty of horizontal space (the row is far from full width in the screenshot).
  • The config-id badge (codex_p...) is drawn on top of / collides with the v0.154.0 version text.
  • Status line ("Available") and the enable switch render fine, so it is purely a name/badge/version layout problem.

The built-in Codex row above renders correctly (Codex · v0.154.0 · Authenticated · ChatGPT Pro 5x Subscription), so this appears specific to custom instance rows where a config-id badge is present.

Impact

Minor bug or occasional failure (cosmetic; the row is still usable, but the name and version are unreadable)

Version or commit

t3 v0.0.39, Codex driver v0.154.0

Environment

  • Desktop app on Linux (Omarchy / Arch, Wayland, dark theme)
  • Built-in Codex: authenticated via ChatGPT Pro subscription
  • Custom Codex instance: display name starting with personal, own config dir starting with codex_p, status "Available"

Confirmed as a layout bug in the Providers settings list row. Cosmetic, but the custom-instance name and version are unreadable. Not a duplicate of #8521.

    What’s going wrong

Custom Codex instances (instanceId !== driver, e.g. codex_personal) add a config-id chip on the same non-wrapping flex line as the display name and v0.154.0. The built-in codex row skips that chip, which is why it still looks fine.

The list column is only 17rem (lg:grid-cols-[17rem_minmax(0,1fr)]). After padding, icon, gaps, and the enable switch, the title line has ~150px. That fits Codex + v0.154.0, not personal + codex_personal + v0.154.0. The page itself is wide (the editor pane takes the rest), so the row looks like it has unused space.

In ProviderInstanceCard list mode the three pieces compete badly:

    • display name: truncate only — no min-w-0 / flex-1, so it collapses to pe…
    • config-id chip: min-w-0 truncate with bg-muted/60 — also shrinks, and can paint over the version
    • version: max-w-24 shrink-0 — never yields

Status (“Available”) and the switch are on other parts of the row, which matches the report.

    Where to fix

    • apps/web/src/components/settings/ProviderInstanceCard.tsx (list mode title line)
    • apps/web/src/components/settings/ProviderSettingsPanel.tsx (17rem list column)

Suggested targeted fix: give the name a real share of the row (min-w-0 flex-1 or a min-width), and don’t keep name + config-id chip + version on one cramped line (wrap, put the id under the name, or hide extras at this width). Widening the list column is optional and overlaps #8521.

    Related (not fix attribution)

No extra repro info needed. Cross-platform CSS; reported on Linux desktop t3 v0.0.39.

Thanks for taking the time to report this and provide the details. We revisited it during the orchestrator V2 cleanup.

The custom instance config-id chip is no longer rendered in the list title row. That removes the reported third competing label and badge/version collision; current row contains display name, version and optional advisory only.

I’m closing this based on the current source and the evidence in this thread.

    Source reviewed.

Source-verified removal of the reported collision; extreme name truncation at narrow widths was not visually tested.

If you still hit this on a current build, please reply with the app/server versions and the steps that reproduce it. We can reopen this if the original problem is still there.
