[Bug]: Document preview and thumbnail are suppressed when the page count is not known #382

Description

@laticrete-pimcore

Problem

Both AssetController::getDocumentPreviewPdf() and ElementService::getThumbnailUrl() gate document previews on $asset->getPageCount().

getPageCount() reads the pageCount custom setting, which is written by the asset-update-tasks queue. It is null until that queue has processed the asset — and permanently whenever page-count extraction failed or the setting was never written.

In that state the preview and the thumbnail URL are both suppressed even though the document converts perfectly well.

Expected

Let the conversion decide. getDocumentPreviewPdf() already catches a failed conversion and returns null, and the document-thumbnail route handles an unconvertible asset itself.

    Hi!

    Thanks again for your contribution!
    As we are sunsetting admin-ui-classic in favor of Pimcore Studio, we won’t be able to fix or implement this.
    However, we are reviewing Pimcore Studio's relevance to this issue and will implement it if necessary.

    Really appreciate your contribution and understanding!

    Thanks a lot for reporting the issue. We did not consider the issue as "Pimcore:Priority", "Pimcore:ToDo" or "Pimcore:Backlog", so we're not going to work on that anytime soon. Please create a pull request to fix the issue if this is a bug report. We'll then review it as quickly as possible. If you're interested in contributing a feature, please contact us first here before creating a pull request. We'll then decide whether we'd accept it or not. Thanks for your understanding.
