To avoid to get into the same problem again as we are in now: I suggest that a autoamted dependency tracking is installed. Something like one of these:

I hope this might keep us more up-to-date and avoid this sort of backlog we are sufferng at the moment.

Just to add another option - I've had good experience with Dependabot - GitHub Marketplace on other projects.
