Dithering broken for website integration

Dithering broken for website integration since ~30 April

My website integration stopped dithering correctly around 30 April. Colors close to white (e.g. light blue) just become white instead of being dithered. The result looks patchy.

My site uses flat base colors for lines, text and backgrounds and they look fine. Embedded images and icons, which need dithering for intermediate colors, are affected.

Observations:

• images in my website no longer dither
• every single image in a basic HTML file dithers fine
• a manual screenshot of the website, uploaded as a photo, dithers correctly
• an old version of my website that worked a long time ago is broken too.

Timeline:

• 29 April: still working
• 30 April: broken

I'm happy to provide screenshots or test anything if that helps.

Interesting: If I use an image that’s dark across the entire surface, everything gets covered in a dithered pixel mess, even the white/transparent areas in the top half.

Again: This worked better until around April 30. Was something changed in the last update that made it worse for me?

Hi @cedecode Please try now with the latest API. The issue was that I have the Auto detection got confused when having graphical images with photos combined, because it detected these as simple illustrations and optimized for that. Now the optimization is not as extreme and should look better for illustrations and photos.

icons: Light colors are being dithered again, no white spots any more. It looks a bit rougher than before, but it's a great improvement.
text: My impression is that text has gotten worse. Small fonts are pixelated and hard to read.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a reference photo when everything was still okay with my specific design. But you can also see a difference in the last two images (compare "0 mm").
