Theme changes break hot reload

When slipshow serve is running and I edit my custom theme, the hot reload often just breaks the theme. The content of the presentation otherwise appears fine. Refreshing myself then fixes it.

And I'm not sure if this is related to the above issue, but I've also observed hot reloads where only part of the HTML was served, so that a half broken html tag appears as text on the page. Something like <span class=" and it stops right there, like the server just closed the socket halfway through.

I tried to reproduce, but I could not...

If I understand correctly, the broken theme happens often enough so that trying ~10 changes, I should have observed it?

I'm also pretty surprised about the incomplete html problem! What's sent over the wire is actually a marshaled OCaml value. so if it's cropped during the transfer, it's probably impossible to unmarshal it...

Given that, it's maybe the file reading that's breaking (maybe in both cases?). But that's strange!
Would you mind sharing what's your system: MacOS, Linux, or another OS?

I'm on WSL, so "basically Linux Ubuntu".

I looked into this again and the cause seems to be vim. When a save would overwrite a file, by default (with the setting backupcopy=auto; this can be fixed by setting backupcopy=yes) vim removes the original file before writing to it. File watchers tend to notice the file going missing, but in this case slipshow also does not see the file being replaced right afterwards.

Thanks a lot for the investigation! That makes a lot of sense.

I'll definitely fix this at some point. In the meantime, I'm glad you found a workaround!
