Tracking issue for the 1.5 release.

Currently scheduled for June 30, 2022 (with a release candidate around 2 weeks before), although I believe that we decided to do a 1.5 since we still had some deprecations to do and did not want to delay the 1.4 release (xref #41957 (comment) and subsequent comments). If that being the case, I see no reason why 1.5 should not be released earlier, once the necessary deprecations are in place.

Also it occurred to me that maybe we can branch earlier for the next release, i.e. once we feel we are close, and then tag the rc from 1.5.x. While preparing for the release, master is a moving target.

#47485 says july 31 is the expected date for 1.4.4. Should we update the estimate for 1.5?

v1.4.0rc0 was on Jan 5 and the release on Jan 22, so ideally add 6 months to those dates.

1.4.4 will probably be the last in the 1.4.x series (we had bigger gaps than the recent releases between 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 and between 1.4.2 and 1.4.3). So can expect 1.4.4 to be released somewhere around the 1.5.0rc0

given approx 2 weeks for the rc period. How does mid July for the rc and end of July for 1.5 sound?
