How do I declare types?

I'm using express with express-session and the req object has a session property. Whenever a user logs in, I declare req.session.user with an object that has the user data, like id.

When I run my app through the supertest, I'm getting typescript error saying Property 'user' does not exist on type 'Session & Partial<SessionData>'..

I have a global.d.ts in my project root that declares express' Request object.

So how do I get my tests to not throw this error? Feels like I have to declare something in supertest?

UPDATE

Putting the augmentation inside index.test.ts file works. This suggest the augmentation is not being loaded before the test is ran?

Found the fix. The issue is not with supertest. It's with ts-node.
