Feedback on UI

Hi,

I'm new to opensearch, migrating from earlier Elasticearch AWS installations.

As suggested by the UI, I'd like to share early UI feedback.

All in all : what a loss of space !

First thing first : WHAT is that huge top horizontal bar containing only "Opensearch Dashboards" word on the left, and a ... what is it, a buoy on the right ?

Using mainly the "discover" view

• fonts are too big ! too few lines can get displayed.
• left pane is too wide
• autorefresh button is now hidden in submenus
• date picker is ... cumbersome

An finally : I usually use dark mode a lot .. but this one is especially unusable, I removed it, contrasts are simply not good. Even a browser plugin does a better job.

I'm not against changes. But when they feel like regressions, that's an issue.
The bigger screens I buy, the less data I can display on them :-)

I was wondering if it is possible to change any of the UI labels. Some of them might be meaningless to certain users and meaningful to others. so I suggest to have them defined in a yaml or properties file.

UI labels include any out of the box text such as text in menus like "OpenSearch Plugins", "Query Workbench" and even the header text "OpenSearch Dashboards".
