Overview

DateTime.Add read the hour and minute components with Hours() and Minutes(), which round to an integer. Adding PT1.5H added 2 hours, and PT1.5M added 2 minutes. ISODuration.AddTo still reported the result as exact, so recurrences with such an interval produced uneven periods (2h, 1h, 1h, 2h for PT1.5H).

This change reads hours and minutes as decimals and adds them together with the seconds through AddSeconds, which already keeps fractional seconds. Hours and minutes have a fixed length, so the result is exact, and whole-number durations behave as before.

Fixes #5321

Notes for reviewer

  • TestDateTimeAdd gets cases for PT1.5H, PT2.5M, -PT1.5H and PT1H0.5M. They fail on main and pass with this change.
  • Fractional days, weeks, months and years are still rounded. They have no fixed length, so this change leaves them alone.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Date and time additions now correctly preserve fractional hours and minutes, including negative values and combined durations.
  • Tests

    • Expanded coverage for fractional and mixed whole/fractional date and time durations.

RetriggerView in GreptileConfidence Score: 5/5

The PR appears safe to merge.

Summary

DateTime.Add now combines decimal hours, minutes, and seconds before calling AddSeconds.

  • Date-time additions keep fractional hours and minutes exact.

Ordinary fractional durations are covered, but exceptionally long combined durations can produce the wrong date. This is a bounded risk to fix or explicitly accept before merging.

Explanation

The change satisfies the coding requirements in issue #5321. DateTime.Add now converts decimal hours to seconds with a 3600 multiplier and decimal minutes with a 60 multiplier, then combines both with SecondsDecimal() before calling AddSeconds. This preserves PT1.5H, PT2.5M, negative fractional hours, and mixed hour/minute values. TestDateTimeAdd covers these cases. The change leaves variable-length units rounded, as required by the issue scope.

The changed files are limited to DateTime.Add and its focused TestDateTimeAdd cases. The implementation and tests directly support issue #5321. No unrelated behavior or files appear in the reviewed diff.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Keep large clock components from overflowing the combined duration.

For PT2000000H40000000M, each component fits in a time.Duration, but their combined nanoseconds do not. AddSeconds converts the combined value to int64, so this change can produce a date in the wrong direction. Apply representable components separately, or split the total into bounded additions.
