Context & Background (in brief, if a Product Proposal is linked above)

For courses with summative assessments (e.g., proctored exams), it is often undesirable to show learners their scores on individual problems. In particular, some learners have been known to use the itemized results of thier exams to help others cheat.

Course authors should have a “Show answer” setting for problems that will prevent the results from being displayed on the Progress page. Existing options, like “Attempted or Past Due” and “Never” don’t meet the need.

Scope & Approach (in brief, if a Product Proposal is linked above)

The preferred solution would be to change the behavior of Show Answer “Never” so that it allows the final score to be displayed on the Progress Page only after the due date. This is consistent with never showing the answer but still showing the score when expected.

Value & Impact (in brief, if a Product Proposal is linked above)

The current behavior of the MFE Progress Page is blocking our adoption of it, and thereby blocking the removal of the legacy Progress Page.

Milestones and/or Epics

  • Communicate the approach if it changes current behavior

Timeline (in brief, if a Product Proposal is linked above)

No matter the approach, implementation should be relatively simple. The greater challenge will be finding consensus on the approach and any necessary communication.
