Is this the best way to do it? Everyone’s going for a different way to implement Kubernetes on AWS, with little consensus.

Well, it's the official Kubernetes quickstart by AWS. Obviously there will be many other ways of deploying K8s on AWS - some of which I hope to add as additional links in the coming weeks, along with other general tips.
