WebKit: text selection paints empty space beside and between lines

What happened?

Selecting text across several blocks in a note fills the blank area to the right of each line,
and the gaps between blocks, with the selection colour, so the highlight covers space that has no
text in it. Windows does not do this. It shows on both WebKit platforms, so it looks like WebKit's
selection gap painting rather than the editor.

Steps to reproduce

1. In a note, write a heading followed by a few short list items.
2. Drag a selection from the heading down into the list.
3. The highlight extends across the full width beside the short lines.
