Summary

Propose an opt-in live voice panel for Omarchy users through the existing community-plugin system. This PR documents OMP Voice, a working MIT-licensed plugin combining a compact floating Herdr terminal with Oh My Pi's /live conversation.

This is a documentation-only integration proposal, not a built-in voice implementation or a change to defaults. It adds no packages, default shortcuts, account integrations, or automatic microphone activation to Omarchy. Maintainers can evaluate whether this should remain a community plugin, be linked in the manual, or become a future first-party integration.

User experience

  • Super + Alt + V opens/closes the floating voice terminal after explicit setup.
  • An outside click dismisses it without consuming the underlying click.
  • Normal terminal closure ends OMP live voice and retains the conversation in an isolated Herdr session.
  • OMP authenticates through its own openai-codex provider; Codex CLI is not required.

Scope and boundaries

Only manual/17-ai.md changes. The manual identifies this as a separately maintained community plugin and documents dependencies, source review, explicit setup, and microphone/provider limitations. The plugin manager continues not to execute install hooks. Setup refuses shortcut conflicts, backs up user files, preserves existing Herdr voice settings, and rolls back failed Hyprland validation.

Forced helper termination, lost compositor, or failed Herdr IPC is not a privacy guarantee; this limitation is documented. There is no claim of guaranteed free idle voice or cross-machine credential synchronization. The plugin currently relies on OMP's default Ctrl+L live binding.

Verification

  • Plugin: 11 automated tests pass locally and in GitHub Actions.
  • omarchy plugin validate passes for the plugin.
  • Tested the public-repository install and explicit setup on Omarchy 4.0.3, Hyprland 0.56.2, Herdr 0.9.3, and OMP 18.8.7.
  • Authenticated desktop integration verified floating geometry, listening, normal dismissal/microphone release, pending-launch cancellation, and retained conversation.
  • No visual implementation changes in this Omarchy PR; plugin integration tests and limitations are described in its README.
  • Omarchy's full ./test/all completed on this checkout: test/cli passed; test/shell reported 13 of 370 test files failed and skipped checks in 4 files. Overall: 1 of 2 suites failed (exit 1). These failures occurred in areas unmodified by this documentation-only PR. No baseline comparison was run, so they are not claimed to be pre-existing.

Failed shell test files and their reported assertions/errors (all under test/shell.d/):

  • background-instant-reload-test.sh: “the initial background is visible.”
  • background-intro-clone-test.sh: “releasing the shared cover reveals the cloned background.”
  • config-test.sh: “omarchy-pkgs checkout found for PKGBUILD coverage” (companion checkout not found).
  • default-agent-test.sh: “Grok registry migration drops the npm tool after opt-out.”
  • elsewhen-migration-test.sh: “the old cache is removed.”
  • hyprland-startup-cursor-cold-test.sh: Python subprocess.TimeoutExpired; grim -c screenshot capture timed out after 5 seconds.
  • launch-browser-test.sh: “browser launcher focuses the default browser window”; output also reports missing omarchy-cmd-default-browser and omarchy-cmd-browser-handoff commands.
  • passwordless-grant-lifecycle-test.sh: “set OMARCHY_PKGS_PATH to the companion package checkout.”
  • remote-session-service-test.sh: “remote session service tracks a gliff-server session”; fixture reports that the screencast event did not report the running gliff-server session and the SSH peer was [].
  • runtime-smoke-test.sh: “bar put places a widget after the one it names”; reported order was ["omarchy.indicators","omarchy.clock","omarchy.elsewhen","omarchy.keyboard-layout","omarchy.weather","omarchy.system-update"].
  • screenshot-sanity-test.sh: “required command is available: omasnap.”
  • snapper-test.sh: “omarchy-pkgs checkout is available for packaging coverage.”
  • unowned-system-paths-test.sh: “omarchy-pkgs checkout found for package ownership check.”

Skipped checks (not skipped entire suites):

  • test/shell.d/kitty-config-test.sh: Kitty not installed; native config parser checks skipped.
  • test/shell.d/luks-rekey-journal-test.sh: kernel keyring unavailable; live token run skipped.
  • test/shell.d/thunderbolt-authorization-test.sh: real boltd integration requires BOLT_TEST_SOURCE and an UMockdev environment.
  • test/shell.d/usb-authorization-policy-test.sh: native USBGuard matcher requires g++ and USBGuard development headers.
