Description

Remove the Exit button from the Controls dock

image

Motivation and Context

I don't know a single other application that has an exit button in the main UI.

The Controls dock is something I'd like to fully replace one day but in the meantime this helps remove some clutter from it.

now imagine all the people without compositors rendering the default window outlines (X button) exiting through file -> exit, the button is useful, saves a lot of time, if you don't want it appear at least hide it under a configuration unit.

There is also an 'Exit' option in the File tab of the menu bar. Do you want to remove it as well?

Can we at least get it under a check box in settings?

I also miss the Exit button. I think it made sense there. A better approach would be to add a confirmation on exiting instead of removing the button.

For ages I was using this button and now my memory muscle kicked me in the nuts.

What is this?

I don't see a reason why you would remove it completely.
We (in my team of streamers) use the button all the time!

All the controls are at the bottom of the screen (or at least most useful controls are in that control panel) and we end stream down there, so to then have to move mouse to the top of the screen is not practical if you were to ask me!

Maybe consider making it a setting to show the exit button?
I would get it if people accidently close OBS using the button, so that those would want to hide it (or as some suggested, add confirmation [with checkbox to remember])

I aint updating my local OBS anymore, until this button comes back!
I don't want any UI changes to this thing at all. I might just have to fork and build the current version of OBS before its too late...

The Controls dock is something I'd like to fully replace

The entire controls dock is on the chopping block in favor of more consistent UI/UX paradigms. We will not be adding the exit button back, as a checkbox option or otherwise.

If you feel this is critical to your workflow, we recommend you build OBS yourself and revert this commit to add it back.

I will close this issue now, as we are not currently soliciting feedback on this change. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, we do understand this change will take some getting used to. We have confidence it will be just fine. :)
