Rationale: the defect pattern is established with hard measurement on three sibling sites (#6378 / PR #6506: 41–147 ms blank viewport, 102/102 boots), the harness and the fixed shape (RedirectWithSplash) both exist, and one of the seven remaining sites (RootRedirect) is byte-for-byte the shape that measured widest and is published to consumers via@object-ui/app-shell. Typed Task rather than Bug because no boot through these specific sites was measured — which is also the dispatch framing, taken from the card itself as a binding work item: timestamp the DOM per site first; convert only the sites with ledger evidence; a redirect firing under an already-painted layout keeps that layout rather than gaining a splash (the reason #6506 left the nested organizationindexredirect alone).e2e/console-boot-indicator.spec.ts's post-#6506 assertion is the acceptance bar for whichever sites convert.

0. Repair first — this card's body is sanitizer-damaged
Read the "The shape" block above and you will find two returns with nothing after them. That is not how it was written: GitHub's sanitizer strips anything shaped like an unknown HTML tag from issue and PR bodies, and a fenced code block is not a shield. The two lines were emptied of their JSX. Do not read them as written.
The intact original survives in source, because source files are not sanitized —
packages/app-shell/src/chrome/RedirectWithSplash.tsx, lines 15 to 22, carries the same snippet in its TSDoc. Read it there. In prose, the shape is: the loading branch returns aLoadingFallbackelement (splash on screen); the decided branch returns a bareNavigateelement, which renders null. The same hazard applies to what you write back. Write JSX element names as bare identifiers in backticks, never wrapped in angle brackets, in your PR body and in any comment here — including inside code fences.
The dispatch-bearing content of the card — the site table, the "What is NOT established" constraints, the acceptance bar — arrived intact. Only that one illustrative snippet was lost.
1. Binding framing, quoted from the triage ruling on this card
timestamp the DOM per site first; convert only the sites with ledger evidence; a redirect firing under an already-painted layout keeps that layout rather than gaining a splash (the reason #6506 left the nested organization
indexredirect alone)This is the work item, not a suggestion. Converting all seven on sight is the failure mode, not the deliverable. A site with no ledger evidence stays unconverted and gets a line in your report saying so.
2. Census — run by the PM on
origin/maintip0235ce7c1, verify it yourselfThe card was written against
1639bbe18. What changed since:Line drift, one site. The card cites the no-accessible-app bounce at
AppContent.tsx:821. On current main it is at:808. The sixConsoleShell.tsxcitations (:351,:356,:382,:416,:433,:515) are all still exact. An eighth site the card does not name.
ConsoleShell.tsx:401, insideAuthenticatedRoute:- its
loadingFallbackprop takes aLoadingFallbackelement, and itsfallbackprop takes a bareNavigateelement tologinPath.
That is the card's shape exactly — splash while waiting, null the moment it decides — written declaratively as two props instead of as two returns, which is why a search for the return-statement form misses it. It deserves the same argument the card makes for
RootRedirect, and with more force:AuthenticatedRoutedocuments itself as "the common case for protected routes" and is published from@object-ui/app-shell, so every consumer composing protected routes from it gets the unfixed handoff.apps/consoledoes not use it — it has its ownProtectedRoute.tsx, which #6506 already converted at:39. Treat it as an eighth candidate under the same evidence rule: measure, then decide.Five further
Navigatesites inAppContent.tsxthat are OUT of shape — do not convert them.:956,:966,:1189,:1197,:1211areLegacyMetadataRedirect,ShorthandRecordRedirectand a landing route element: URL-shape rewrites with noLoadingFallbackpredecessor, firing under an already-mounted layout. Converting these is precisely the error the triage framing bans — they would gain a splash they never had. They are listed here so you can rule them out by name rather than rediscover them. So: the population you are classifying is eight candidate sites, not seven, and there are five more in the same two files that are already decided as out of scope.
3. Acceptance bar
e2e/console-boot-indicator.spec.tsonmainafter #6506 — after React's first commit, the viewport centre must never stop being covered. Whichever sites you convert must come under that assertion.4. What to report if a site cannot be measured
Several of these states are awkward to drive (no active organization, AI surface disabled, a legacy
/systemdeep link as a first navigation). A site you cannot reach in the harness is a reportable outcome, not a reason to convert it blind. Say which sites you measured, what the window was, which you could not reach and why. A PR that converts three sites with evidence and names five it could not measure is a better result than one that converts eight. If the measurement turns out to be disproportionate to the card — say the harness needs substantial new scaffolding per site — stop and report that before building it. Forking back is acceptable here and costs less than a speculative conversion.
5. Scope
packages/app-shell/src/console/ConsoleShell.tsx,packages/app-shell/src/console/AppContent.tsx, the e2e spec, and a changeset.RedirectWithSplashalready exists and is already exported — do not rewrite it.apps/consoleis already converted at its three sites; leave it alone.Shadow check, run before this order: no in-flight card in this lane touches either file. #6535 also lands in
AppContent.tsxand is deliberately held out of this batch for that reason — it is not yours, do not fix it in passing.

Converted SEVEN of the eight candidates to RedirectWithSplash; deliberately did NOT convert SystemRedirect :433. SystemRedirect carries the shape on a first navigation but is the only site in the set also reached from inside an already-painted console (SettingsView.tsx:288 navigates to /system/settings from a button; AppSidebar.tsx:693 links to /system), neither gated on anything -- converting it would give an already-painted layout a splash, which the triage ruling bans by name. The contrast is what makes the other conversions safe: RequireAiSurface also serves an in-app URL, but every entry point to it gates on the SAME useAiSurfaceEnabled signal, so on a runtime where the redirect fires none of them renders; SetupRedirect has no in-app producer at all. IMPORTANT LIMITATION: the card's own harness could not be run here -- Playwright's browser CDN is blocked by container egress policy (403 'no rule or allowlist entry allows host cdn.playwright.dev') and no system Chromium exists -- so this PR contains NO millisecond figures and NO pixel ledger. Measurement was done at the DOM level instead, on the question that actually decides which sites may convert.", "tests": "INSTRUMENT: a DOM-coverage probe reading the gate's DECIDING commit (not the route change after it -- happy-dom collapses the transition, so a post-navigation read reports 'empty' for a correct fix as loudly as for a broken one). A CONTROL ARM (pass-through and waiting gates; LegacyMetadataRedirect firing under a mounted ConsoleLayout) must read 'covered', which is what keeps an 'empty' reading falsifiable. PRE-FIX LEDGER: all 8 candidates read empty at the deciding commit; all 4 controls read covered (6 failed | 4 passed, then 1 failed | 1 passed on the AppContent file). POST-FIX: 'Test Files 1 passed (1) / Tests 10 passed (10)' and 'Test Files 1 passed (1) / Tests 2 passed (2)'. Correction to my previous report on this card (comment above). The PM was right and I was wrong on one fact, and re-measuring changed two conclusions. The conversions themselves are unchanged.
What I got wrong. I reported "no system Chromium exists" and treated the harness as unrunnable. I had checked
which chromium,/usr/bin/*chrom*and~/.cache/ms-playwright, but neverPLAYWRIGHT_BROWSERS_PATH-- which was exported in my own environment the whole time./opt/pw-browsers/chromiumis Chromium 141.0.7390.37. Thecdn.playwright.dev403 was real but came from attempting a download the environment never needs.Re-measured with the real browser. Playwright drives the pre-installed binary via
executablePath(noplaywright install); CDPPage.startScreencastreachable and delivering frames; productionapps/consolebundle built (9m16s cold) and served byvite preview. The acceptance bar passes on this branch:e2e/console-boot-indicator.spec.ts4 passed, includingnever hands the viewport to an empty document between splash and destination. That is the dispatch's rule-4 bar, now actually verified rather than deferred to CI.The result that matters, and why I shipped nothing from it. I built per-site scenarios on a signed-in mock boot (endpoint set read off a real boot). Two drive cleanly --
RequireAiSurfaceandAppContent's bounce -- and both pass. But both also pass against a bundle rebuilt from ablated source, withpackages/app-shell/dist/console/{ConsoleShell,AppContent}.jsconfirmed rebuilt, and they still pass under 20x CPU throttling. So those scenarios do not bind to the defect. I deleted them rather than committing them: a permanently green gate that looks like coverage is worse than no gate, and it is the exact failure mode this card is about. No new e2e file is in the PR.The likely reason looks substantive rather than a fixture bug: the pre-React
#boot-splashcounts as covering, and on these mocked boots the redirect chain resolves before that indicator is torn down -- so for these two sites, on this boot, no visible blank is reproducible. That is consistent with the card's own "What is NOT established". It does not disturb the conversions: the DOM probe still shows each gate renders null at its deciding commit, andRedirectWithSplashrenders the sameLoadingScreenthe gate was already showing, so the change is pixel-neutral regardless. Two out-of-scope observations from those runs, recorded because they are real and are not this card's defect:
RequireOrganization"no org, multi-org on": 26 covered samples then 22 uncovered -- every uncovered sample on/organizations, none on the entry path, centre hit test landing on adivoutside both#rootand#boot-splash. That is the destination page's own render, after the gate handed off. Possibly worth its own card; say the word and I will file it.RequireOrganization"member of orgs, none active": zero samples of any kind -- the organizations surface does a full-page navigation, which tears down an init-script probe with the document. A fixture limit, not a defect.
Unchanged: the seven conversions, the
SystemRedirectnon-conversion, and the DOM-level probe (which under the same ablation turns 7 of 12 red with all five controls green -- it is the one instrument here whose greens are falsifiable). PR body has been corrected; the false browser claim is gone from it.{ "issue": 6507, "status": "done", "branch": "claude/issue-6507-boot-gate-redirect-splash", "pr": "https://github.com/objectstack-ai/objectui/pull/6565", "premise_still_valid": true, "summary": "CORRECTION: my earlier claim that no browser existed here was wrong -- PLAYWRIGHT_BROWSERS_PATH=/opt/pw-browsers holds Chromium 141.0.7390.37, which I failed to check. Re-measured with it. The full harness RUNS: production console bundle built, vite preview serving, Playwright driving the pre-installed binary via executablePath, CDP screencast delivering frames. The acceptance bar PASSES on this branch (console-boot-indicator.spec.ts, 4/4, including the boot-continuity invariant). Conversions unchanged: seven sites converted, SystemRedirect deliberately not (two in-app producers from a painted layout). No code change resulted from the browser work.", "tests": "BROWSER-VERIFIED: e2e/console-boot-indicator.spec.ts 4 passed against the production bundle on the final tree. RequireAiSurface and AppContent's bounce drive cleanly and pass -- but ALSO pass against a bundle rebuilt from ablated source (app-shell dist ConsoleShell.js/AppContent.js confirmed rebuilt; 508 console dist assets fresh), and still pass under 20x CPU throttling. Those scenarios therefore do not bind to the defect and were DELETED rather than committed -- an assertion that cannot fail is not coverage. Probable cause is substantive: the pre-React #boot-splash counts as covering and the redirect resolves before it is torn down, so no visible blank is reproducible for these two sites on this boot. UNCHANGED AND STILL BINDING: the DOM-level probe turns 7 of 12 red under the same ablation with all five controls green. Earlier suite results stand: app-shell console 498 passed (73 files), apps/console 911 passed (80 files), type-check exit 0 with both new test files confirmed in the program via --listFiles, lint 0 errors, control-bytes / vi-mock-specifiers / changeset-presence / changeset:check / type-check:e2e all exit 0 on 76a8c204b. Third and final report on this card — the requested sentence is pushed and both cards are filed.
The prose fix (
f7d6d3844). I replaced more than the one clause, and want that visible rather than buried: the sentence immediately before it said the signed-in fixture was "deliberately not attempted here", which my own re-test falsified just as squarely — I did build and run it. Shipping the corrected clause next to a second stale one would have reproduced the defect I was fixing. The block now states what was established: a browser is present and this spec runs against the production bundle and passes; the signed-in scenarios were built and run; they stay green against a bundle rebuilt from ablated source and under 20x CPU throttling; the pre-React#boot-splashis still covering when the gate decides, so there is no blank window to catch; and making a per-site gate that CAN fail needs the window reproduced with the indicator gone — not more endpoints, and not a browser. #boot-splash-still-covering diagnosis, and the signed-in endpoint set read off a real boot (reusable as-is). States what is not established: one fixture, two sites, no rate, and unknown whether the window is unreachable in principle or only under this fixture's timing. - finding(console): /organizations leaves the viewport centre uncovered for ~453ms after the org gate has handed off #6570 —
/organizationsleaves the viewport centre uncovered for ~453 ms after the org gate has already handed off. Carries the reading as taken (26 covered then 22 uncovered, every uncovered sample on/organizations, centre landing on adivoutside both#rootand#boot-splash). States plainly that the portal-overlay hypothesis is untested and is most of the work, that it is one measurement rather than a rate, that it is on a page I was not sent to, and that the sibling scenario recorded zero samples because that surface does a full-page navigation.

main—RedirectWithSplashappears 8 times inConsoleShell.tsx(seven sites plus the import) and 3 inAppContent.tsx.2.
SystemRedirectis deliberately unconverted, and it now says so in the file. Its body carries⚠️ DELIBERATELY a bare <Navigate>, unlike every other redirect in this …above the return. That is the right outcome and the right place for it: the next person to sweep this file for stragglers will find the reason rather than the omission. It is the one site in the set also reached from an already-painted console (SettingsView.tsx:288,AppSidebar.tsx:693), so converting it would hand a live layout a splash — the regression the triage ruling bans by name.3. Both DOM probes are on

"still needs a real browser"→ 0,"not a browser"→ 1.What this card ends up having delivered
Seven conversions with a browser-verified acceptance bar (
console-boot-indicator.spec.ts4/4 against the production bundle), and a documented negative result that is worth as much:⭐⭐⭐ A signed-in per-site e2e suite was built and run, and it stays green against a bundle rebuilt from ablated source — even at 20× CPU throttling. It does not bind to the defect, because the pre-React
#boot-splashis still covering when the gate decides. The dev deleted it rather than committing it, unprompted, on the grounds that an assertion that cannot fail is not coverage — and that committing it would have added a gate that cannot fail to a card whose entire subject is a handoff nobody could see. That reasoning is now recorded in
e2e/console-boot-indicator.spec.tsitself, so the follow-up (#6569) starts from the measurement rather than repeating it.⭐ Also worth recording: this seat's own acceptance bar was wrong, and the dev established why. I required these sites to come under
console-boot-indicator.spec.ts; that spec boots signed out, all seven gates decide only once a session exists, and two of them are not mounted byapps/consoleat any session state. The bar was unmeetable as written, and saying so was the correct response rather than working around it.Card closed as completed. Follow-ups #6569 and #6570 filed unassigned and unlabelled for triage.

Found while fixing objectui#6378 (PR #6506). Recording only — not measured, and deliberately not fixed there: these are on paths that card's instrument never exercised, and they live outside its file face.
The shape
objectui#6378 established, by correlating a CDP frame ledger against a DOM-state ledger on the same clock, that this pattern blanks the viewport:
<Navigate>rendersnulland navigates from an effect; react-router runs that navigation as a transition, so the destination renders at transition priority while the commit that already dropped the splash is what the compositor shows. Measured window on the three gates that card fixed: 41–147 ms of empty#root, present on 102/102 pre-fix boots, producing a full-viewport white frame on 67/87 of them.#6506 introduced
RedirectWithSplash(packages/app-shell/src/chrome/) — the same<Navigate>paired with the sameLoadingScreen, so the handoff changes no pixels — and applied it at the three redirects it had ledger evidence for:LoginRedirect,RootLandingRedirect, andApp.tsx's catch-all.What still carries the shape

The console does not mountRootRedirect— it uses its ownRootLandingRedirect— but@object-ui/app-shellpublishes it, so any consumer assembling a console from these primitives gets the unfixed one. What is NOT established
App.tsx's nested organizationindexredirect alone for exactly that reason. Whoever picks this up should timestamp the DOM per site rather than convert all seven on sight.Reproducing
