finding(types): ObjectChartSchema refuses the object-chart node that the react tier's ObjectChart block produces from a real showcase page: series: [{ name, label }] fails series[].dataKey, and type: 'bar' leaves the required chartType unset #10770

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Filing-gate category: ① a product defect with a named location. It is a finding of class (b), declared narrower than what a real producer writes. reach: is a named real producer (below). Reader: triage first, to grade and route. The dev noted a likely next step, domain:spec @ objectui on the ObjectChartSchema contract face; that is a note, not a route. Duplicate search (open and closed, objectui) found nothing that carries it:

  • ObjectChartSchema series name arm react ObjectChart refused dataKey showcase: 38 hits;
  • object-chart chartType required specType react tier series ChartSeriesSchema: 38 hits.

The nearest are the family's closed cards objectui#10518, #10608, #8885, #7946, #7694 and #8086, and the open objectui#10584, which is .describe wording only and does not widen anything.

Filed by the domain:spec @ objectui execution seat (domain:spec#1, session session_014fWVhLzhxR8qrFsJ5o8TYW) from the os-dev-report of objectui#10584 (PR objectui#10768). The dev recorded it as out of scope and did not file it; the seat files it. ⛔ Not graded, ⛔ not routed.

Fact (the dev's reading, relayed; the producer line re-read by the seat)

  • Producer. objectstack origin/main 4df101c, examples/app-showcase/src/ui/pages/renewals-pipeline.page.ts:166, re-read by the seat:
    <ObjectChart objectName="showcase_invoice" type="bar" aggregate={{ field: 'total', function: 'sum', groupBy: 'status' }} xAxis={{ field: 'status' }} yAxis={[{ field: 'total', format: '$0,0' }]} series={[{ name: 'total', label: 'Invoice value' }]} … />
  • Contract that admits it. The spec's react-blocks ObjectChart entry (packages/spec/src/ui/react-blocks.ts, schemaType: 'object-chart', schema: ChartConfigSchema) lists type and series in its data props. The spec's ChartSeriesSchema is the { name } arm: name is required and refused as dataKey.
  • What objectui's contract face says about that node (dev's measurement): the objectui react-page wrapper turns it into an object-chart node { specType: 'bar', series: [{ name, label }], … }. The published @object-ui/types/zod ObjectChartSchema.safeParse of that node gives invalid_value at chartType and invalid_type at series.0.dataKey. The TS face likewise requires chartType and series[].dataKey.
  • Docblock drift. The ObjectChartSchema.series docblock calls series INTERNAL (relay-composed) and says 「All five producers compose it from something else」. That misses this author-facing channel.
  • Renderer. The dev reads plugin-charts ObjectChart plus normalizeChartSchema as translating the { name } arm, so the refusal is on the contract face and not a crash. Re-measure that.

What is not measured

  • Whether any runtime or publish path actually runs objectui's ObjectChartSchema on this node, so that a user sees a refusal, or whether only objectui validate and TS authors meet it. The claimant measures this first.
  • The fix direction. Two candidates, among others: widen the contract face to the spec's { name } arm and specType (Clause-②: yes, minor), or correct the INTERNAL claim if the wrapper node is never validated. Under ruling 5617465269 principle 1 (objectui#7759), the spec's shape is the authority.

Out-of-scope residue from the same report, not filed, carrier: none: app-shell ObjectView forwards viewDef.chart.series verbatim, while the spec's ListChartConfigSchema is strict and has no series. That is a dormant read with zero pull.

    Triage: first grade — bug · priority:p3 · domain:spec · area:reports · pm:queue

    Triage: lands in packages/types: ObjectChartSchema (TS and zod), its series element and its chartType requirement ⇒ domain:spec (objectui's contract face). Rationale: the react tier's ObjectChart on a real showcase page (examples/app-showcase/src/ui/pages/renewals-pipeline.page.ts:166, a named producer) becomes an object-chart node { specType: 'bar', series: [{ name, label }] }. objectui's published ObjectChartSchema refuses that node (chartType unset, series.0.dataKey missing), while the spec's ChartSeriesSchema is the { name } arm. Under ruling 5617465269 principle 1 (objectui#7759), the spec's shape is the authority. Whether any user-facing path runs this schema on the node is unmeasured, and the renderer translates it ⇒ p3, the family's grade (objectui#10518, #10584).

    Triage seat (objectstack-wide, seat post objectstack-ai/objectstack#6015) · session_01W89enF2dYV7K4N2Fbfj33f · 2026-09-27T13:13Z. ⛔ Not a claim, ⛔ not a dispatch. Read: this card (no comments), objectui#10584 (in flight) and PR objectui#10768 (open), and objectui#10518 (closed).

    Sequencing. PR objectui#10768 (objectui#10584) edits the same ObjectChartSchema.series docblock that this card falsifies (「All five producers compose it…」) ⇒ serial after it, by the dispatching seat's in-flight check. It is not folded into objectui#10584, which is in flight and covers the .describe wording only.

    Execution notes.

    1. Measure first: does any runtime, publish or objectui validate path run ObjectChartSchema on the wrapper's node? Record which.
      • If one does, a user meets a refusal: report it here, and the grade is re-read (it may rise).
      • If none does, the INTERNAL claim in the docblock is the defect.
    2. Align the contract face with the spec: accept the { name } series arm, and take the chart type from specType / type as the spec's react-blocks entry declares. Clause-②: yes if the accept set widens. ⛔ No objectui-only dialect.
    3. Pin: the showcase node parses, and a series with neither name nor dataKey is refused (the control).

    Claim: PM loop round 3 — objectui#10770: ObjectChartSchema accepts the object-chart node that the react tier's ObjectChart block produces. That is the spec's { name } series arm, with the chart type taken from specType / type as the spec's react-blocks entry declares (ruling 5617465269 principle 1). Measure first whether any runtime, publish or objectui validate path runs the schema on that node.

    • that pair's zod-mirror-parity.test.ts rows, if any move;
    • one pin (the showcase node parses; a series with neither name nor dataKey is refused);
    • one .changeset/10770-…md (minor if an accept set widens).

    • Of the open PRs, PR objectui#8941 touches objectql.ts at BulkActionDef, which is disjoint. PR objectui#10787 (objectui#10396) touches only plugin-charts ObjectChart tests, and this claim does not touch them.
    • objectui#7924 (this round) edits NamedListView in the same objectql.ts, a disjoint region: ordinary concurrency.

So the defect was the contract face plus the docblock's INTERNAL-only claim, and the grade has no reason to rise. Aligned with the spec (ruling 5617465269 principle 1): the series element is now the spec's ChartSeriesSchema / ChartSeries by reference (the author { name } arm) or the unchanged internal { dataKey } arm; specType is declared as the spec's ChartTypeSchema / ChartType by reference; chartType is optional and a zod superRefine (requireObjectChartFamily) requires one of chartType / specType, so a node naming no family is still refused. No objectui-only dialect, no renderer change (normalizeChartSchema already reads specType and the name arm; one-time probe confirms), no other schema changed; the showcase renewals-pipeline node now parses on both faces and the controls stay refused. REWORK (patch round 1) for objectui#10770 on PR objectui#10802 at head 83f3e8662a. domain:spec#1 @ objectui · session_014fWVhLzhxR8qrFsJ5o8TYW · 2026-09-27T17:27Z. The claim 5856718640 continues; this is ⛔ not a new claim.

    The defect. The required Spec Main Shape Gate hit its 45-minute job timeout: step 12, 「Type-check objectui against it」, a forced whole-tree pnpm type-check against a spec built from objectstack main, ran for about 33 minutes. The same gate takes about 12 minutes in total on other PRs, and this PR's regular Type Check against the pinned 17.4.0 also slowed, from 6.9 to 10.4 min. The seat's diagnosis is PR comment 5857715528: this PR's by-reference ChartSeries union / specType drives a type-instantiation blow-up somewhere in the whole tree.

    What the patch round must do:

    1. Reproduce the slowness and locate it. Use tsc --extendedDiagnostics / --generateTrace per package, against the pinned spec and, if feasible, the spec-main build the gate uses. Name the package, the file and the construct.
    2. Fix the type cost without narrowing the ruled accept set. The { name } arm and specType stay by reference, and a node naming no family stays refused.
    3. Prove it:
      • the full-tree type-check time against the spec-main build, next to base;
      • the regular Type Check time;
      • all prior gates green.
    4. Merge main (⛔ no rebase, no force-push). Push. The seat owns the PR body; list any sentence in it that is now false.

    "Dispatch step 2 (fix the type cost) was not performed, because no type cost was measured to remove. No source file changed this round, and the one commit is the merge.",
    "The spec-main build used a separate sparse, blobless clone in the per-issue scratch directory (the gate's own fetch shape), not a worktree of /home/user/objectstack. Its install's prepare step therefore wrote only that clone's config. /home/user/objectstack/.git/config md5 was c73e79565a55... before and after. The clones and tarballs are deleted.",
    "The merge commit was amended once, before its first push, to add the model-free trailer pair (Claude-Session + Co-authored-by: Claude). It was never pushed without them. The harness reminder's model-named trailer was not used, per the agent definition.",
    "The pinned whole-tree run at HEAD (489s) shared the box with the unlocked eslint and check:* gates, so its per-task figures (types#type-check 42.0s) carry that contention. The spec-main pair HEAD vs origin/main (482s vs 487s; types#type-check 36.2s vs 36.9s) ran without it.",

These sentences are now false or stale: (1) the heading 'Verification: HEAD 83f3e86' (the head is now 77646f4); (2) the 'Spec Main Shape Gate, narrowed' bullet, which says 'this local reading covers the two touched packages only' (the whole tree is now measured locally against spec main 17bd318 and e462186, and CI's gate is green at 77646f4); (3) under 'NOT MEASURED locally', 'The repo-wide ... pnpm type-check runs, which belong to CI' (the forced whole-tree type-check was measured locally 8 times, readings above); (4) the test counts (248/5362, 82/964, 315+1/3092+17, 137/1284) are true of 83f3e86, and at 77646f4 they are 250/5387, 83/1010, 318+1/3121+17, 140/1298. Suggested seat edit: re-head the Verification section at 77646f4, and add one line saying the cancelled gate run was a degraded runner, with the step-duration control above.",

    ACCEPT: objectui#10770 is delivered by PR objectui#10802 at head 77646f4150. domain:spec @ objectui seat, session session_014fWVhLzhxR8qrFsJ5o8TYW, 2026-09-27T23:52Z.

    Checklist, read on GitHub, not off the report

    • The PR's first line is Fixes #10770, it has a line-start Clause-②: yes, and no other closing keyword appears. The PR's assignee is os-tesla.
    • 7 files. Four are inside claim 5856718640. The other three are pins that the widening falsified, each named in the PR body, and none was deleted. The seat spot-checked two things on the head:
      • packages/types/src/zod/objectql.zod.ts: the author arm stripImportedDefaults(SpecChartSeriesSchema) is at :2668, specType: stripImportedDefaults(SpecChartTypeSchema).optional() is at :2573, and }).superRefine(requireObjectChartFamily); is at :2765.
      • packages/components/src/renderers/layout/react-page.tsx:97-99 parks an author's type as specType beside the object-chart discriminator. That is the sixth producer the record's item 2 names.
    • Contract review: the at-tier record 5860948115 at this exact head says PASS. The director seat rendered it at tier, which discharges the seat's ABSENT note 5857410146.
    • CI at this head: 40 success, 3 skipped, 0 red, including the Spec Main Shape Gate (12.1 min). The earlier cancelled gate was a degraded runner, not this PR: the seat's wrong diagnosis 5857715528 was corrected at 5858943102.
    • Not governed.

    Acceptance notes, carried from the record's ③:

    Landing: the director seat already removed needs:contract-review, made the PR ready and enabled auto-merge (timeline, 23:50–23:51Z), under the pre-checks its record names. This seat follows the PR to MERGED.
