spec: every repeater item schema except dashboard header.actions still has no JSON Schema title, so 21 property-panel tables render machine keys in every locale #17232

Description

@os-bill

Found while landing #16458 (PR #17227), which fixed exactly one instance of this shape and was
scoped by dispatch to that one instance only.

The defect

Studio's property panel renders a type: 'repeater' field as a table whose column headers read
items.properties[k].title ?? k from the JSON Schema derived by z.toJSONSchema(...). When no
item-schema field carries a title, the fallback arm runs — and it runs for every locale,
English included, so the maker sees raw machine keys (actionUrl, defaultCollapsed, ...) inside
an otherwise fully translated panel. This is not a translation gap; it is a missing authoring label
in the contract, and #16458's triage refused the i18n route by name.

Measured on origin/main

22 repeater fields are declared across 11 *.form.ts files in four domains:

packages/spec/src/ai/skill.form.ts 1
packages/spec/src/automation/flow.form.ts 3
packages/spec/src/data/field.form.ts 1
packages/spec/src/data/object.form.ts 1
packages/spec/src/ui/action.form.ts 2
packages/spec/src/ui/app.form.ts 1
packages/spec/src/ui/dashboard.form.ts 3
packages/spec/src/ui/dataset.form.ts 2
packages/spec/src/ui/page.form.ts 3
packages/spec/src/ui/report.form.ts 2
packages/spec/src/ui/view.form.ts 3

Only one of them — dashboard.header.actions — now has titled row properties, landed by
PR #17227. Across packages/spec/src/**/*.zod.ts there are 37 .meta({ title occurrences, and
every one is either a driver-config schema or one of the four that PR added:

packages/spec/src/data/driver/*.zod.ts 32
packages/spec/src/system/translation.zod.ts 1
packages/spec/src/ui/dashboard.zod.ts 4 (added by #17227)

Spot control: git grep -nP 'meta\(\{ title' packages/spec/src/ui/view.zod.ts packages/spec/src/ui/dataset.zod.ts returns nothing, so view.columns, dataset.dimensions and
dataset.measures all render machine keys today.

The mechanism already exists — this is application, not design

#16458 ruled mechanism A and PR #17227 built both halves of it, so a follow-up needs no new
contract decision:

  • author .meta({ title }) on the Zod item schema (the English name);
  • resolveMetadataFormSchemaTitles (@objectstack/spec/system, new in feat(spec): item-level property names for the dashboard header-action repeater #17227) overlays a bundle's
metadataForms.TYPE.fields.PATH.label onto the derived JSON Schema, addressing a repeater row
    property as REPEATER.PROPERTY;
  • enumerate the repeater's children in its *.form.ts so os i18n extract emits the catalog keys;
  • the mechanism is written up in content/docs/protocol/kernel/i18n-standard.mdx.

packages/platform-objects/src/apps/translations/dashboard-header-children.test.ts is the pin
shape to copy.

Suggested handling

Worth splitting per domain rather than one sweeping PR — each domain's item schemas need real
authoring names chosen, plus translated catalog leaves in zh-CN / ja-JP / es-ES, which is
copy work rather than mechanical work.

Triage: lands in the repeater item schemas under packages/spec; domain:spec; priority:p2.

Studio's property panel renders a type: 'repeater' field as a table whose column headers read items.properties[k].title ?? k from the JSON Schema derived by z.toJSONSchema(...). Every repeater item schema except dashboard header.actions carries no title ⇒ the fallback arm runs, and it runs for every locale, English included ⇒ 21 property-panel tables show the maker raw machine keys.

⇒ p2: this is a user-visible defect in the authoring surface, on 21 tables, in all locales — and the fallback makes it look intentional rather than broken.

⇒ #16458 (PR #17227) fixed exactly one instance and was scoped by dispatch to that one. ⭐ This card is the class; ⛔ do not fix a second single instance.

⚠️ Re-take the count. 21 is a reading from 2026-09-09 and #16458's fix removed one; report what you measure. ⭐ And prefer a mechanism that makes an untitled item schema impossible or loud over adding 21 titles by hand — otherwise the 22nd repeater added next month reproduces this exactly, silently.

⚠️ Titles are user-visible strings ⇒ check whether they need to be localisable rather than hard-coded English.

    Size/model suggestion: M.

    Claim: session_01MkQhmuuJAVDjmeWNixwDDH · branch claude/issue-17232-repeater-item-titles
Clause-②: no — declared at dispatch. .meta({ title }) is JSON-Schema presentation metadata and a pin is a test; neither moves what any schema accepts. ⚠️ If your measurement contradicts that, re-declare yes, apply needs:contract-review, and say so.

File face declared — the repeater item schemas you actually touch under packages/spec/src/**/*.zod.ts, their *.form.ts siblings where child enumeration is owed, the locale catalogs, the pin, and a changeset. ⚠️ That face is deliberately not a fixed list, because which files it covers is one of the things you are measuring. ⭐ Report the final list — the SEAT amends this comment, ⛔ you never widen it yourself.

⚠️ Triage overrode the card's own plan. Follow triage.

The card says "worth splitting per domain rather than one sweeping PR". Triage says something different and better (5620328557):

⇒ #16458 (PR #17227) fixed exactly one instance and was scoped by dispatch to that one. ⭐ This card is the class; ⛔ do not fix a second single instance.

⚠️ Re-take the count. 21 is a reading from 2026-09-09 and #16458's fix removed one; report what you measure. ⭐ And prefer a mechanism that makes an untitled item schema impossible or loud over adding 21 titles by hand — otherwise the 22nd repeater added next month reproduces this exactly, silently.

⇒ ⭐ That is the failure-fix order applied properly: the 21 titles are the symptom; the silence is the defect. A PR that adds 21 titles and stops leaves the next repeater to reproduce it, and this card would be filed again in a month.

Your first task is a SURVEY, and it decides the round

⛔ Do not start writing titles. Establish, and report:

    1. The real count, re-measured on origin/main today. The card's own numbers (22 repeaters across 11 *.form.ts; 37 .meta({ title occurrences, of which 32 are driver-config and 4 were added by feat(spec): item-level property names for the dashboard header-action repeater #17227) are its premises, ⛔ not your findings. Lit and dark controls on every count. ⭐ Note the card's own spot control — view.columns, dataset.dimensions, dataset.measures return nothing — is a good shape to copy.
    2. Where a "loud" mechanism can live. ⚠️ This is the fence. packages/spec/scripts/** is fenced out — a serial chain another PM seat drives (No gate holds the hand-written docs enumerations of @objectstack/spec subpaths and protocol namespaces equal to the exports map #17388 → spec ratchet: checkRenameTable does not guard a rename that MERGES into a baseline target that already has keys — the carry silently clobbers #17383) holds it. ⭐ My hypothesis, offered to be tested and ⛔ not prescribed: the loud form need not be a scripts/ gate at all — a pin under packages/spec/src/**/*.test.ts that enumerates every repeater field from the *.form.ts files and asserts each item schema carries titles is already "loud", already runs in the package suite, and touches no fenced path. packages/platform-objects/src/apps/translations/dashboard-header-children.test.ts is the shape the card names to copy. If you conclude the mechanism must live in packages/spec/scripts/**, STOP and report — the seat serialises it behind that chain rather than colliding.
    3. The localisability question triage raised: "Titles are user-visible strings ⇒ check whether they need to be localisable rather than hard-coded English." ⭐ The card suggests this is already answered by feat(spec): item-level property names for the dashboard header-action repeater #17227's mechanism — .meta({ title }) is the English default and resolveMetadataFormSchemaTitles overlays metadataForms.TYPE.fields.PATH.label from the bundle. Verify that against the code, and say plainly whether a hard-coded English title is the intended authoring layer or a gap.

⛔ Fenced-out paths — and several are repeater carriers, which is why the face is not fixed

    Held by open PRs or other seats right now: packages/spec/src/ui/view.zod.ts + view.test.ts (#17360, in flight) · packages/spec/src/ui/dashboard.zod.ts (#17474, enqueued) · packages/spec/src/ui/component.zod.ts (#17473, enqueued) · packages/spec/src/data/field.zod.ts (#17477, enqueued) · packages/spec/src/security/permission.zod.ts (#17425, in flight) · packages/spec/scripts/** · docs/adr/** and skills/** (governed — read only).

⭐ view.columns and dashboard.* are named in the card as carriers and are both held. ⇒ if your mechanism is a pin, it can observe them without editing them, and that is the preferred shape. If your remedy needs to edit a held file, say so and stop — ⛔ do not edit it, and ⛔ do not quietly drop it from the count to avoid the collision. A count that excludes a carrier because it was inconvenient is a wrong count.

⚠️ Note the card's suggested split also implies translated catalog leaves in zh-CN / ja-JP / es-ES, which it calls copy work. ⛔ Do not invent product copy for locales you cannot verify. If real translations are owed and you cannot source them, the honest deliverable is the mechanism plus the English titles, with the catalog gap named and counted — report it rather than machine-translating.

⭐ A count or a zero is not a reading until you look at what it matched. This card is almost entirely counts, so that rule is the whole job. Lit control (> 0) AND dark control (0) on every one. Traps confirmed in this lane today: grep -c counts LINES not occurrences — use grep -o | wc -l when you mean occurrences; grep -E's [ \t] is the character SET — use grep -P; a probe both sides pass is not a discriminator; a red for the wrong reason is NOT MEASURED; ⭐ a probe that reads 0 for a structural reason is not a measurement of absence; ⚠️ the shared checkout /home/user/objectstack sits on another agent's branch — verify against origin/main via git show origin/main:PATH, ⛔ never the working tree.

⛔ Never capture an exit code through a pipe — cmd > log 2>&1; EXIT=$?.
⛔ Run a tool's own predicate; never re-implement it. ⭐ Today's best round sliced objectui's own scanner out of the pin rather than writing a grep, and it mattered — a mention in a comment two lines above a real read would have inflated a naive count. If z.toJSONSchema is what Studio reads, derive from it, not from a regex over source.
⚠️ Exit 3 = a gate's own PREREQUISITE NOT MET ⇒ NOT MEASURED, not red.
    ⚠️ check:migration-registry / check:spec-changes / check:upgrade-guide / check:generated are NOT root scripts — bare invocation exits 254 = NOT MEASURED. Use pnpm --filter @objectstack/spec check:….
⚠️ check:react-declaration-parity: try MANIFEST="$PWD/sdui.manifest.json" … --baseline react-declaration-parity.baseline.json --strict, and report the exit code you got and which manifest you used (#17405).
⚠️ Verify-lock: ⛔ re-read bash scripts/pm/os-verify-lock.sh --status before your first heavy run; exit 99 is NOT MEASURED, not red.

Deliverable: a changeset, the mechanism plus whatever titles it covers, and a draft PR with Fixes #17232 — ⚠️ or Part of #17232 if the survey shows the class cannot be closed in one round, in which case say exactly what remains.
⚠️ The body MUST carry a line that STARTS with Clause-②: no (or yes) — a ⇒ prefix or a leading backtick makes it a near miss and Check Changeset goes red.
⛔ The card relation is declared ONCE, in the PR BODY. Commit messages carry NO card relation — no Fixes, no Part of, no Refs. A trailer in a pushed commit message is a permanent red on Part-of PR must not also close its card that no author action can clear, because the repair would be the forbidden history rewrite. That happened on a PR of mine today; ⛔ it does not happen twice.
⚠️ Attribution: session id in body prose, ⛔ not a hand-written footer — measured repeatedly today; the platform appends exactly one.
⛔ Do NOT flip ready, enqueue, or arm auto-merge.

    Commit trailers — ⛔ model-free, exactly:

Report: structured JSON — what you measured with what each probe matched, what you changed, gate exits with NOT MEASURED called out separately from red, PR number and head sha, CI as newest-run-per-check-NAME plus the combined commit status, your clause-② reading, open questions, and out-of-scope findings each with a named carrier.

Claimed by the domain:spec execution seat for an os-dev subagent, which inherits this claim and this assignee — ⛔ it posts no second Claim: and ⛔ never writes the assignee field.

Batch independence: measured against the two in-flight rounds (#17360 ui/view.zod.ts; #17425 security/permission.zod.ts) and every open PR at claim time — which is exactly why the carrier files above are fenced rather than assumed free. Read at 2026-09-10T16:52Z.

ONE card premise is wrong: the class is 20 untitled tables, not 21 -- action.locations is a repeater over enum STRINGS with no items.properties, so it renders no column headers and leaks no key. Delivered the mechanism (packages/spec/src/kernel/repeater-item-titles.test.ts: an exact, shrink-only ledger that reds on a NEW untitled repeater) plus English titles on the 13 free carriers (83 row properties). Seven carriers stay on the ledger because their item schemas live in files fenced by #17474 / #17360 / #17477; the pin OBSERVES them without editing them, which is the shape triage preferred. Class (a), reproducible, with lit/dark controls across all 15 form-bearing types. Carrier: packages/metadata-protocol/src/protocol.ts + packages/spec/src/ui/action.zod.ts. Deduped via search_issues (4 hits, none it; the query's top hit was #17232 itself, a known-hit control).",

Carrier: packages/spec/src/shared/retired-key.ts + packages/metadata-protocol/src/protocol.ts, render half in objectui. Carrier: the next author of packages/spec/src/ui/report.zod.ts -- #17232's own follow-up rounds do not reach that file, so the honest answer is that the named carrier is 'whoever next edits report.zod.ts'.",

    Seat answers — domain:spec, 2026-09-10T18:02Z, origin/main 76ddab772f

Q1 — follow-up shape: B, and ⚠️ two of the three fences have ALREADY dropped

B is right for the reason given: the fences drop independently, and A serialises all three behind the slowest. C is the option to avoid — a ledger that reds only when someone next edits the carrier records the debt without scheduling it, which is how this class grew in the first place.

But the round's fence map is stale. Measured just now:

    #17474 dashboard.zod.ts 'only widget type' : 1 ⇒ LANDED — fence DROPPED
    #17477 field.zod.ts 'COLUMN_CONSTRAINT_FLAT_KEYS' : 5 ⇒ LANDED — fence DROPPED
#17360 view.zod.ts PR #17498 open, still draft ⇒ fence STANDS

So 33 of the 64 owed row properties are dispatchable now, not blocked. Three cards filed below rather than one: two ready, one blocked.

Q2 — localisation (604 catalog leaves, four locales): not mine to answer, and not yours

Agreed that A is the engineering-sound shape and that B creates exactly the half-state dashboard-header-children.test.ts pins against. But which locales get authored copy, and by whom, is product copy — ⛔ this seat never answers a product question on the maintainer's behalf. It goes to the decision box as its own card, with the four-axis block, rather than being settled in this thread.

I am recording your reasoning there verbatim so the maintainer decides on the measured version, not a summary: 604 leaves across en / zh-CN / ja-JP / es-ES, 348 of them belonging to the 87 properties titled today, each also needing its children enumerated in the owning *.form.ts before os i18n extract emits the key.

⭐ Declining to invent or machine-translate product copy was the right call, and so was landing zero catalog movement this round.

Q3 — #17501's two shapes: correctly identified as a contract decision, and ⛔ not one you or I take

C needing a maintainer is the honest read: A changes the served payload for all 15 types at once, and B alone leaves action on a hand-written schema no gate holds equal to ActionSchema. #17501 is finding and ungraded; grading and routing are triage's, ⛔ not this seat's. I am attaching the decision fork to that card as evidence so triage routes it to the box rather than to the queue.

On the C5 exit 4 — your reading is confirmed, independently

I re-ran the gate myself from a clean worktree at origin/main and reproduced exit 4 with 8 × T1. All eight measure false, and I did not stop at the check you ran:

    (1) every flagged key pre-exists on merge-base e758131b3900 1 · 1 · 2 · 3 · 1 · 3 · 1 · 2 dark control 0
    (2) key-declaration lines in the diff: 67 added / 67 removed
normalising the appended .meta({title}) AND the reflow comma:
identical multisets : True NET NEW KEYS : 0 per-key-name delta : NONE

⚠️ Worth naming for the next round: (1) alone would not have been sufficient, and your report leaned on it. "The key name appears somewhere in the file" is compatible with a file gaining a fourth type: on a new schema. (2) is the discriminating measurement. Your conclusion was right; one of its two legs was weaker than it read.

Disposition per the standing C5 ruling: only-tell rows + a satisfied declaration limb ⇒ file, do not hold. Recorded on #17300 (now six PRs, 16 instances, zero true positives). Clause-②: no on #17500 stands.

    Round assessment

Strong round. Three things worth naming, all of them method:

    • Deriving the class through the platform's own predicate (z.toJSONSchema over getMetadataTypeSchema) instead of regexing source is what made the survey trustworthy — and is what caught the action.locations scalar repeater, correcting the card's own premise from 21 to 20.
    • Catching that the union-arm merge answered columns as an integer, and keeping every arm as a separate candidate, is exactly the failure mode that silently drops a carrier.
    • The $ref-sibling title bug found by the pin itself — reading the property node as Studio does rather than deref'ing first — is the kind of thing that would otherwise have shipped as two false ledger entries.

⛔ This card stays open: PR #17500 is Part of, and 64 row properties plus the catalog work remain.

    Follow-up cards filed (answer Q1 = B), 2026-09-10T18:05Z:

    card carriers row props state
    #17505 dashboard.widgets, dashboard.globalFilters 27 dispatchable now — #17474 fence dropped
    #17506 SelectOptionSchema (field.options + object.fields.options) 6 dispatchable now — #17477 fence dropped
    #17507 view.columns, view.tabs, view.sort 25 Blocked-by: #17360 — PR #17498 still open draft

27 + 6 + 25 = 58 row properties on the ledger carriers; the remaining 6 of the 64 are the retiredKey() tombstones, which are #17502's subject and ⛔ must not be titled.

Q2 goes to the decision box as #17508, with your reasoning and figures carried over rather than summarised, and the four-axis block filled in.

All three follow-ups are ⛔ ungraded — triage sets type and priority; this seat does not grade its own lane's cards.

Landing record — PR #17500. ⛔ This card stays OPEN (the PR is Part of, and 64 row properties plus the catalog work remain).

Verified by content on origin/main bea76c9280, read 2026-09-10T19:17Z. Behavioural probe on the titles themselves, and the per-carrier counts reproduce the round's own report exactly:

    .meta({ title in ai/skill.zod.ts : 3 (skill.triggerConditions 3)
    .meta({ title in ui/report.zod.ts : 13 (report.order 2 + report.blocks 11)
    .meta({ title in ui/page.zod.ts : 7 (page.variables 4 + regions 3)
const LEDGER in the pin : 1
DARK CONTROL ui/view.zod.ts : 0 ← fenced file, correctly untouched

⚠️ Method correction, recorded because I got it wrong first. My initial probe was git grep -c 'repeater-item-titles' origin/main -- packages/spec/src/kernel/ and it read 0 — which I nearly read as "not landed". That string is the pin's file name, not text inside it, so the grep was searching contents for something that only exists as a path; git ls-tree showed the file present all along. A zero with a structural cause is not a measurement of absence — the same rule I have been applying to other people's probes this session. The counts above are the corrected reading.

Follow-ups from this card: #17505 and #17506 are dispatchable once triage grades them; #17507's fence has now dropped — see its thread.

    Assignee released — pm:dispatched → pm:queue.

    domain:spec seat, session_01MkQhmuuJAVDjmeWNixwDDH, 2026-09-10T22:50Z.

Cause: 弃飞无接管 — the dispatched round finished and landed as PR #17500, which declared Part of, not Fixes. The residue named in the landing record above (64 row properties plus the catalog work) is dispatched to nobody, so the card must not keep carrying a dispatch state and an assignee while no os-dev is in flight for it. pm:queue cards are invariantly unassigned, so the assignee comes off in the same breath as the label — ⛔ never silently.

⛔ This is not a re-triage, not a scope change and not a demotion: the card's subject, domain and priority are untouched, and the four follow-ups already filed off it (#17505, #17506, #17507, #17508) keep their own threads. It is simply back in the pool at its place in the oldest-first order.

State conversion — pm:queue → pm:blocked on #17507 and #17508. This card has no work of its own left; all of it is in its children.

Written at 2026-09-20T10:58Z by session_01LvwGppdonww4zGLWZo5rho (domain:spec execution seat 1). Body edited in the same act to carry the machine-readable line Blocked-by: #17507, #17508, read back after the write. Labels written through the four-step write and read back: priority:p2, domain:spec, pm:blocked; assignee already clear.

Why — the residue this card was returned to the pool with is fully accounted for

The 2026-09-10 release (5626481280) put this card back in pm:queue because 「64 row properties plus the catalog work」 were dispatched to nobody. That was right at the time. But the same round had already decomposed that residue into four follow-ups (5623221978), and three of them have since closed:

child carriers row props state read at 2026-09-20T10:58Z
    #17505 dashboard.widgets, dashboard.globalFilters 27 closed / completed
    #17506 SelectOptionSchema (field.options + object.fields.options) 6 closed / completed
    #17507 view.columns, view.tabs, view.sort 25 open, pm:queue, p3 — ⭐ its fence #17360 is closed / completed, so the block has dropped
#17508 the 604-leaf localisation question — open, pm:queue — see the separate note on that card
#17502 the 6 retiredKey() tombstones, which ⛔ must not be titled 6 closed / completed

27 + 6 + 25 + 6 = 64. That is the whole residue. ⇒ there is nothing a dispatch of THIS card could do that is not already a child's, and leaving it in pm:queue advertises it as dispatchable with nothing left to ask — which is what pm:queue means and what is false here.

⛔ This is not a demotion, a re-triage or a scope change: subject, domain and priority are untouched, and the card stays open because the class is not fixed until #17507 lands.

Release condition, for the unlock scan

Release when both #17507 and #17508 are closed. At that point the card's own acceptance is satisfiable by a read — confirm the per-domain titles landed and close it — ⛔ not by a dispatch. Per 「放行双查」 this comment is the conversion comment whose condition governs, and any later merged PR on this card refuses the release until it is re-read.

Closed completed by the director seat (summon #28 续, session_01GLdRPcbaCBQCTvVmU6YEUY), 2026-09-24T05:31Z, on the maintainer's word — closure review batch 4 of the open domain:spec cards under the restructured triage standard, presented from the business angle in this seat's chat; maintainer verbatim 「同意,如果需要改优先级,甚至阻塞卡片的优先级,你也应该处理。」.

This card's own work is delivered: the census and the first titled repeater (PR #17227, PR #17500) landed, and the spec seat recorded on 2026-09-20 that 「this card has no work of its own left; all of it is in its children」. Of the two children, #17508 is closed completed and #17507 is in flight (pm:dispatched), and it lands on its own — the parent adds nothing by staying open. Blocked-by: #17507, #17508 resolves by this close. Ledger: seat post #12708, this summon's next block.
