Expression Evaluator

A Java program that evaluates simple mathematical equations

To run the program using a standard gradle terminal, use ./gradlew run.

To run the programing using a clean terminal use ./gradlew run --console=plain (this is the recommended method)

⚠ Important ⚠

Depending on the operating system that the project is being run on (Windows or Linux/macOS), running ./gradlew run may result in the following error message: ./gradlew: 68: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting "in"). This means that the gradlew script is being executed on a Linux/macOS system, and it cannot run because LF line-ending characters have been replaced by CRLF characters (for whatever reason).

In order to fix this issue, execute the following commands in order (in the root directory):

  1. sed -i.bak 's/\r$//' gradlew (this replaces all CRLF chars with LF chars)
  2. rerun the program using ./gradlew run

Plugins

To load in a plugin, select [1] Manage plugins => [2] Load new plugin. When prompted, type in the name of a plugin to load in. Names must include the plugin's package, along with the class of the plugin (e.g. test_plugin.TestPlugin). I have included a few example plugins in this project:

  • progress_indicator.ProgressIndicator
  • factorial_fibonnaci.FactorialFibonnaci
  • csv_output.CSVOutput

To include your own plugin in this gradle project, you must complete the following:

  • the plugin must be built and compiled
  • the root project's settings.gradle must include your plugin as a sub project
  • the root project's build.gradle must specify your plugin as a dependency
