Feature: horizontal split with filesystem and buffers

Hello, thanks for this plugin, it looks GREAT. I was wondering if it is possible to open neo-tree with an horizontal split. On the top I will like to have the buffers mode and below the filesystem mode. Is it possible ?

Not really, but you do have the option of using the current position to open them within normal windows instead of as a sidebar, and then arranging those windows in whatever layout you want using the usual vim commands. The downside with that is that there is no quick toggling both views open and closed as a unit. I suppose you could create a simple function to open / close both windows and map to that.

To do something like this, I think the best method is to add the layout functionality to Nui itself so it can be used by Neo-tree. We had some discussions on that concept but I haven't seen that through yet: MunifTanjim/nui.nvim#18

For now, this is a maybe someday feature, unless someone else wants to contribute the needed functionality to Nui and/or Neo-tree.

Yes, I could, but will that follow this nice assertions that Neo-tree is making about itself (which is what attracted me to it in the first place):

I can't stand glitchy behavior, and neither should you!

Neo-tree won't let other buffers take over its window.
Neo-tree won't leave its window scrolled to the last line when there is plenty of room to display the whole tree.
Neo-tree is thoughtful about maintaining or setting focus on the right node

I'll take a look at the issue you mention.

I'd say that I don't personally have enough interest or time to do this, but if someone else could do it in a solid way then I would accept it as a PR. The funny thing is that for all the work I put into making a nice sidebar, I rarely even use sidebar mode anymore. I prefer the quick toggle within a split instead of leaving it open all the time.

After the addition of this PR, it is possible to first, create empty windows with any positions and open neotree with :Neotree current <source-name>.

Ah, so you mean that you want multiple sources in the same floating window?

Frankly speaking, I guess it'll never be implemented. Unfortunately I think you should search for a different plugin or a different workflow.

@cseickel I think this is a good example to use the wont-fix tag and I think we should reject these kind of more than difficult requests to keep the code consistent instead of waiting for someone to make a PR.

I agree, this is never going to happen because edgy already handles this perfectly. Wanting to have multiple horizontal splits for sources in a float is just crazy.
