EPIC: Design System Working Group (DSWG) - revising governance

What

Facilitate Design System Working Group (DSWG) sessions.

Why

We need to engage with the community to give updates, gather votes and get feedback on styles, components and patterns in development.

When

Every month or, when there is enough work in progress to gather votes and feedback.

How

1-hour meeting facilitated by the service manual team with design system updates, addition or change proposals, voting and open discussion.

Session notes and outcomes to be documented in the GitHub community backlog.

Desired outcomes

1. Actionable feedback for developing/improving styles, components and patterns to publish in the nhsuk-frontend and design system
2. Volunteers for testing components and patterns

We have recognised there is still a need for a lightweight governance process to be in place around the design system. There are a large number of design system-associated requests at the moment and we only anticipate this becoming greater as we have more capacity to update the design system. We have decided to have an initial meeting in September to discuss the governance process of proposed components and patterns being updated in the service manual. The service manual team will then trial the process over a period of time and iterate where necessary. In the meantime, all design components will go to the design system group on NHS.UK's instance of Slack for comments and amendments before being agreed by the ComCom Product Manager (Molly Lee) for release. Further updates to this ticket will be made after the initial meeting in September 23 (date tbc)
