[Bug]: User Access is denied for reading our file in one directory

Bug description

From the latest update, my users can read file anymore.

4 users out of 30 currently affected.

Steps to reproduce

1. As they want to access the file daily, they get the error
2. Then they check the Sync on Next
3. They see the following error

Please advice, my users can't work anymore

Can you be more specific? Are you referring to an update of the Desktop client or of the Server? And precisely what version?

4 users out of 30 currently affected.

The Desktop client has detailed logs you can refer to for more details (see Admin Manual and possibly User Manual at https://docs.nextcloud.com).

Additionally so does the Server (web logs, Nextcloud general log, Nextcloud audit log).

Also, is the problem only experienced with this one folder? Do other folders/files sync fine for these 4 users?

If only 4 users, perhaps a local matter such as virus protection? What else is unique about them?

@JJNIS : I'm struggling with a comparable issue and might have nailed down the reason ... Can you please verify, if we might have the same situation?

Are the following assumptions correct?

• The files are located in a "shared folder" (what you called your "directory")
• The nextcloud-users having troubles have only "read-access" to this shared-folder
• The files have recently been added to an empty or new subfolder
• The OS of the users having trouble is Windows 11 ?
• "virtual file" deactivated (although this didn't make a difference in my case)

In my case this produces your failure on Win 11 Desktop Client (same as #9293)

• Linux Deskto Client => works just fine
• MacOS => no possibility to test

Reason = Local folder gets created with limited access rights, hindering the sync

I do not know exactly on which level, but ...

... the following workaround solves the issue on Win11 (at least temporarily)

1. Give full access right to the current user

2. Ensure to apply to child objects

4. Delete the Windows "read-only" attribute (will be reset after next sync)

5. Sync worked in my cases
