Support for creating site

But it would be create to have a resource to create a site, e.g.

resource "netlify_site" "my_site" {
  ... confirm base requirements for a site
}

This is a great request, although we mostly see people creating sites in the UI and managing them in Terraform (potentially by iterating over all sites using data "netlify_sites" ...).

We will prioritize this and try to get it done in the next couple of months.

Great to hear that @ramonsnir, we are stating to use Netlify and getting few pin points that would integrate better with our infra process and tech stack. I may have a few other details that we will find out :-)

I'd like to add that one of the reasons for terraform to exist is disaster recovery. If my company had 100 sites and I had to recreate them all manually it would take a long time and I might forget some. For me personally, the site resource is fundamental and I'd have to use a non-official netlify provider (which I'd like to avoid) if the official one were not to cover this feature.

Updating on the status, unfortunately not on direct progress yet:

We had a couple of internal meetings on this so far. In the first, we identified that the way that the non-official provider creates websites breaks several collaboration features that are enabled by the Netlify<->GitHub/Bitbucket/GitLab integration, because it only supports the building of commits. In the second, we started exploring ways to either enable the rest of the features through the API, or what manual steps a user can take to "hydrate" a site's connection to GitHub/BB/GL if these features are important to them. These features today are enabled by a UI-heavy flow involving OAuth and the Netlify GitHub App.

We won't add official support until we know there's a path for users from site creation to a full feature set's availability, but I promise we're looking into it!

I was curious if this would provide a more maintained method for pushing deployments built external of Netlify.

I presently have Github Actions perform builds and push deployments to Netlify via a non-official Netlify action as the official one hasn't been maintained for 2 years despite issues/PRs raised over that time.

I often use the preview deploys for PRs, so it'd be nice if there was better official support from Netlify that keeps that simple. There are guides like this one which instead take a more verbose DIY approach as a result, but it gets a bit more complicated for supporting preview deploys for PRs contributed via forks.

@polarathene I believe you're asking about deploying code/content to an existing site from the CLI or a GitHub Action, not creating new sites through Terraform.
